Too scared - and too much of a coward. Did you apply to the same period?
I'm visiting in Oxford for a year so I'm in town now and can't face the prospect of going back (to Paris, I'm French). It's weird, I think I've never wanted anything that bad... Gah!

No, I applied for 1780-1900. I know how you feel about calling. And about being there and not wanting to leave! I studied abroad there too. Good luck though! My fingers are crossed for you.

to those who have applied for DPhil in Politics/ IR, I believe the department has made the decisions already. I just wonder who has got an offer?
As I am not in the UK right now, I think I need to send them an email to update my application status now... >_<"
Ok the patience has finally snapped... I am going to email them today asking about my application status.... after nearly 24 hrs of no sleep im too disillusioned to think ... could somebody copy me in on what they wrote to admission as an inquiry note plz..... thank you

"Dear Whatever,
I believe the department has made its decisions concerning postgraduate applications now. If that is indeed the case, could you please tell me the outcome of my application?

If it makes you feel any better, I was a complete nervous wreck last year. And it didn't really help that my father sent me an agitated email saying "you've received a letter from Oxford but I won't open it, I'll leave it for you until you get back" a few days before my flight home for the easter vacation... Incidentally, that letter turned out to be some sort of alumni junk mail from my old college. My father doesn't know how to read postage marks.

The Dep made the decisions on Friday I think. I emailed them yesterday and got an email back within two hours saying that they gave me an offer. Only a one-liner email. You should def email to put yourself out of your misery
after emailing the wonderful secretary many many times, she has finally responded to my email. I have been accepted for an M. Phil. in Development Studies as well. I am definitely excited, although the condition for this offer is much higher than the other one.

As happy as I am, this complicates a lot of things. I have already been accepted by my first choice college for the other program (Social Anthropology) and I had to accept my position there many weeks ago, whereas they will start looking for a college for me for this one now. Further, what happens to Clarendon applications when you have two offers? Do both departments look for money at the same time? If anyone has any insight, please help me out.

Thanks a lot.

I always thought once you'd been accepted by a college for one programme, they'd accept you regardless of what programme you eventually came to Oxford to study?

Oh really? I hope not, just because Wolfson are giving me no money right now, whereas my choices for development studies were fairly wealthy colleges who could potentially give me money. I hope I can go to Wolfson anyways if need be, but would definitely like to see if anyone else would give me money first.

I hate money.

I always thought Clarendon awards were college linked. If my thinking is correct, and it may not be, I think they are also tied to particular subjects as well. You could try dropping an email to Caroline Davidson, the Academic Secretary at Wolfson, to find out?
It is subject specific, but I don't think it's college specific. Several colleges have other funding available connected to the Clarendon, but to my knowledge that's the extent of the connection. I think I will be eligible for the Clarendon for both programs; now getting it is another matter altogether.

I will contact the programs and Ms. Davidson as well soon though. Thanks!
I was fortunate enough to receive a BCL offer today. In case it applys to anyone, letters have gone out now and the faculty are also emailing people with a copy of the letter.

Congrats to those with offers and good luck to those waiting!
Does anyone here know how the process works once you are nominated for a Clarendon scholarship by the department? Is it still a very competitive process from here/when do we find out? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Yeah it is still a very competitive process; the acceptance rate after getting an offer from Ox is 4.6%. (I am basing this on the fact that you can't be nominated for the Clarendon unless you have an offer from a department first; please correct me if I am wrong). Once you do have an offer, then if you checked to be considered for the Clarendon, you are automatically nominated for it, and the University decides who should get it. There are usually between a 100 and 120 Clarendons in any given year. good luck!

Oh how I hate money so....

Thanks! I'm a bit confused though. My offer letter stated that after a lot of consideration (meaning they had looked through the people who are automatically nominated?) I was one of 5 nominees the department was sending to the Clarendon committee. Does this change anything? They are so ambiguous!!

That does change everything. Now I am panicking, and wondering if they have nominated me through the department or not. I had been vaguely told they would prepare the papers and that it's in the University panel's court now, but nothing as formal as a mention in the application itself!

congratulations for being nominated, and good luck.

as a side note, anyone got any suggestions as to how one can make 30k pounds a year for two years real quick?

Slight hitch - most of them haven't got any money given the current economic climate :p:
