Officially there is no requirement for the subsections, if you have 109 you should be fine. I think they might still accept you unofficially when you get less than 109, provided the writing and reading skills are good, but this is speculation.

Indeed, my letter didn't state any requirements for the subsections. See also the university website: Home > Admissions > Postgraduate courses > International Students.

Hey,

Just got a reply from Mr M. - Politics Dept. saying that I am on waiting list and that my application will be reconsidered in the March application field. Do you think I still have chances? Should I try to send more things to them - like an extra recommendation or smth? Any clue when I will hear back... aaarg, prolongation of waiting makes me even more nervous....:woo:

I am sorry you got waitlisted. I was on the re-evaluation pile for the first gathered field for development studies, but was accepted through the second gathered field. I would recommend you send more information/recommendations as I think it will at least show your interest and concern. Of course don't send them things that won't improve your application, but otherwise I see no harm. I sent them three more recommendations, an updated letter of intent and an additional written sample, and I would like to think they helped!
I had an email today from the Department for Geography and the Environment, and I think this is applicable to all applicants for MSc courses at this Department - colleges will not have made their selections yet, and "I doubt very much that you will hear anything for another few weeks" about college allocations.

Where I a graduate at Oxford, I would more than happy to hear I'd been allocated one of those two, so fingers crossed for you! And (as I'm sure you're sick of everyone saying!) your time in Oxford will be what you make of it, not what your college makes of it  I hope I'll still be able to say this if I end up with one of the less popular colleges in Cambridge :p:

Of, course, you're completely right. I'm more than well aware you have to put the effort in and that, actually, most people are probably destined for colleges that don't appear in their 1,2. I'm just trying to keep myself entertained as Cambridge seem to be taken months to do things at the moment and the Ox offer is most recent. Plus, I sort of hope that the fact I've approached both selections logically (strong, older college but one that shouldn't be overrun with applicants from my course (e.g., not a Merton, Balliol etc or Trinity, St Johns etc at Cam) - newer 'less popular' college (in the sense that it wont be in many 1,2s) means that I should avoid the random drop and I feel quite confident that I might get one of each pair, lol(Queens' and Robinson at Cam). Unfortunately, I've found that logic may not be the best thing to apply to Oxbridge admissions procedure...

Best of luck with your college allocation!

Congrats! That is good news. Now, after a long slog, you might finally be able gage what next year will be like! Funding decisions left to go through, or are they done/irrelevant?

I have Wellcome Trust funding, so I just need to get my 2.i, and then I'm set up for the next four years :eek2:

Are you going to apply to SOAS? Or take a year out, or run away?

The latter seems quite appealing at the moment :p:

Seriously though, I may apply to SOAS but it'll be for 2010 entry at the earliest. I am considering a year abroad, possibly to Damascus. But I'll decide when my exams are done...back to revision zzzzzz

*is so glad she doesn't have exams. But having 25 000 words of essays isn't exactly a walk in the park*

Glad you've got a semi-plan though

ZOMG. No exams at all?! Until last year I quite preferred exams to essays, but then last year I did a course which was essays only and it was heaven. :coma:

I'm jealous of you - given the choice between 25k words and exams, I know which one I'd pick.

Before we get ejected from this thread for spamming, whats your plan? Staying at RHUL?

Ah, well, that will give you some certainty over the next few years. Best of luck getting the grades!!
