ZOMG. No exams at all?! Until last year I quite preferred exams to essays, but then last year I did a course which was essays only and it was heaven. :coma:

I'm jealous of you - given the choice between 25k words and exams, I know which one I'd pick.

Before we get ejected from this thread for spamming, whats your plan? Staying at RHUL?

:p: Yup, have confirmed my RHUL offer, just got to wait on funding and if that's a yes, start planning a year abroad (& getting the exchange office onside  )
Hi,

Just found out that I have been rejected by both my college preferences:sigh:
I have been asked my third preference for college.

Can anyone please advise me on some slightly less competitive college (but i don't want to attend a very new or graduate-only college!)

Also, any idea what happens if I get rejected again by my 3rd preference?
LMH! Or, if I couldn't pick my own college, I'd pick St Peter's, St Ant's, or St Catz.

And if you get rejected again by your third preference, they'll just pass your application around colleges until they find one with space.

Or Keble or Wadham or St Hildas

Why would you not want to attend a very new or graduate-only college? From my experience, the college experience is about the community of people you encounter rather than a collection of buildings.

If you are prepared to drop your old/undergraduate college constraints then you should definitely think about Wolfson, but then again I'm biased

What were you asking them about? I put John's as first choice too and now am paranoid I should be emailing them too!

I don't understand--does that mean that those two colleges are full, then?

No, it just means they're probably not accepting any more students for that subject area. They may not have filled all their places, but colleges usually try to have a balance of subjects in the MCR, so they won't fill up half their MCR with, say, law students even though they technically could.

You can get money from Wolfson for things like conference funding, but I don't think they've got any more scholarships beyond those advertised on the admissions web-site. I don't think taking a place without securing some funding will work either, because unless you've got something like a research council studentship (in which case the college will know how to get at their fees), I think you need to provide some sort of proof you are coming up with all the funds you need.

Do we always get to choose a third choice if we get rejected by our first 2?
Athena
Ooh yes, the New grad accomm. on the Western sports ground = :coma: And New have the amazing summer party, which I crashed last year - free BBQ and drinks, lovely weather, inflatables, the gardens, the squeaky mound...

The New grad accomm on the Western sports ground... Does it mean that it's gonna be very noisy and impossible to study?

No. Far too much fuss.

Do you know which colleges offer onsite accommodation for 1st-year graduates?

I don't know, but I think I remember Angelil saying LMH did. It's not very common, though.
