I received a Clarendon for the MSt in English and I heard both by email and snail mail. They sent me a letter, but also sent a photocopy of the letter via email as I believe there is a contract I need to return to them ASAP. I received the email and letter yesterday (the 6th). Good luck!!

Hey...well done. Congratulations!

Anyone has any idea if any Oxford admissions offices are closing for Easters?

I think the uni as a whole is; certainly when I was emailing earlier this week, I was getting out of office messages for people to be back next week.

Thanks so much! Any updates on your plans?

To folks who got accepted during the last month, have you heard anything from your college. I read somewhere that they usually make their decisions mid-April, so I am curious to know if I should expect anything soon.

Nothing yet I'm afraid...apparently I won't hear about WS until sometime in mid-May. But good job with the Clarendon...I'm impressed!
Still nothing on the colleges, but did get a letter saying I was unsuccessful for funding. any idea roughly how much money I should have saved up for a year? My Cambridge offer says I need at least 14,700 for the one year course to live "frugally"...

I heard from mine (Balliol) in late February. But it could well be because I am a returning student.

If yours is a 12-month course, then it is perfectly reasonable for 14k just to be enough for frugal life; the minimum for 9 months is roughly 10k-13k.

Can you tell me more about Balliol as that was my second choice of college? The course at Oxford is a 9 month course. I want to live comfortably rather than frugally, so 10-13k should still be okay for that, considering I don't go clubbing, drink, or smoke?

Which specific aspects of Balliol would you want to know about?

Although Oxford itself is rather expensive, if you do not spend much on entertainment (clubbing, drinking, smoking, high dining) then I would say 9k/year should be more than enough for Oxford itself - that is if you can refrain from spurious urges of shopping or other big spending!

What is the accommodation like? What is the atmosphere like? What is the library and computer resources like? What is the food like? Is all the food paid for through accommodation fees or is that separate? When do you have to cook for yourself? What is the social scene like? Would you say it's better than St. Antony?

9k sounds very good . I would be very happy if all I had to spend was that. I was expecting to have to pay 12-14k.
Can someone tell me more about Wolfson college (the quality and cost of their accommodation, activities for the graduate community etc.) Thanks!

If I venture to attempt a quick breakdown of academic-yearly expenditure, then the lower boundary could be:

- Accommodation: soft-maximum (uncontrollable, depending on allocated room) of 150GBP/week x 44 weeks (including vacations) = 6600 GBP

- Food: a student-like cost of 20GBP/week * 44 weeks = 880 GBP

- Other miscellanies: should not be more than 2000GBP/year for an average student, given that all reference need (typically the most expensive expenditure for students) is well catered for by the University.

But by no means 9000GBP should be taken as the standard - it is just what I myself consider as 'liveable' at Oxford.

As regards Balliol accommodation, most graduate students are housed in a complex called Holywell Manor off the main site, which is still within Oxford (close to St Catz.) Rooms vary in size, are clean, agreeable in quality and are all serviced by College-hired cleaners. The Manor itself has a very popular bar, common rooms, TV room, computer room (printer, scanner, average desktops but high connection speeds!)

There are kitchenettes dotted around the complex which are sufficiently equipped for self-catering. But in terms, people mostly opt to dine in Hall - agreeable food, cheap for College members and good for socialising. You can either pay in advance (100GBP for all dinners in a term) or per meal (about 3GBP.) Outside terms, Hall is typically closed so you can take the opportunities to cook your own favourite dishes.

For reference needs, the Manor does not have a library of its own, but just across the road is the University's Social Sciences Library, and 5 minutes away are the central Bodlean library, the Balliol library (very well maintained) and the Science Area with many superb ref libraries.

For some reasons, I find that the Manor is full of Americans, Australians and New Zealanders, which certainly gives the whole site an out-going and active attitude with people being very friendly. If you just compare the Manor with St Antony's in social terms, then I would say they are equal, although the latter has the student body and the fellowship in the same site so stronger ties.

I think I received a BCL offer in the middle of March and had an offer from my first choice college, Keble, on Tuesday this week. I think how quickly you find out depends on things like whether you are accepted into your 1st or 2nd choice, pooled, and how quickly each college takes to contact students.

Haha thank you! I'm sorry you have to wait so long to hear back...Are you still in undergrad in the UK?

About colleges--I heard that news will slow down in the coming week because most faculty members are away for the holidays. I was told not to expect news until after the 14th or so.
What kind of module grades should i get to apply to Oxford for MSci in Computer Science from a top 4 university? Would 60-80 be acceptable considering the gap between Oxford, Imperial and LSE isn't that huge?
Conditional offers tend to specify either "high 2.i" or a First, if that helps.

Great location, lots of accommodation although the en-suite accommodation is a bit pricey. The college is quite active socially and, although not the richest college in Oxford, it does have quite a lot of cash to spend on ents events. Our bar is also one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, in Oxford and despite a dearth of pubs nearby, the Vicky Arms is only a few minutes walk via the meadow.

well there's a big difference between 60 and 80... if you apply with an 80 from imperial you'll get in, with a 60 it's unlikely
probably not

What about 70% at the end? So a 1st spot on?

Ive been told by the CS department that my offer would be a 2.1 and not a 1st....
