Wow, Fleur, that's great! Congratulations, I'm really happy for you. To get the equivalent of an AHRC grant is as good as it gets. Also, it's good that your heard back from them so quickly. What programme did you get accepted to, if you don't mind my asking?

If I don't get some fairly substantial amount from Oxford I will be very unlikely to be able to take the offer, and will have to go to the LSE instead! So... it's all to play for! :eek3:

Thanks for the info Hobnob and Fleur!

Thanks so much, Leviathan! It was very surprising, but pleasantly so. I am in the English faculty, and will be reading for the medieval MSt.

Don't worry, LSE is nothing to sneeze at. I hope you get some Oxford funding, though. Best of luck!

Anyway, I sent an email to the Politics and International Relations department asking if the ERSC scholarship has already been allocated (although it's a virtual impossibility for me to get it). I also asked if the department has any scholarships.

And who did you email? I tried with A. Melling and G. Roche, but I got no answer. I asked the same questions you did (update on ESRC and departmental scholarships). Anyway, my application is still under consideration of the college...

i just received my college acceptance letter in the mail (i'm an international student) -- st. cross? does anyone have any 'insider' information? i know it's a grad college with a 67% international student population.
one of my dissertation supervisors from my undergrad degree said st x has good food and a good atmosphere and some nice accommodation.

first two are great - i'll be living out so third doesn't really apply

but i'll be at st x too in october! which subject are you?

a friend of mine who is an international student got accepted into St Stephen's House and she'd like to find out more about it, etc, so if anyone here is at all familiar with it, I kindly ask him/her to please pm me.

I'll be at QEH -- MPhil in Development Studies. It's funny, I've read a few posts on forums here and there praising the food at St. X! Great to see another studentroomer bound for St X. Now to find the money ...

Cool! I'm at QEH too! Actually, I think about half my time will be there, half at the econ department (I'm a MSc Economics for Development student). If you don't mind my asking, what country are you from?

Somehow, I am under the impression that St Cross no longer offers normal hall dinners and their students instead dine at Balliol. They may still have formal halls, though.
St Cross do a brilliant, tasty lunch.

Hello all, strange occurrence for me yesterday.

A month or so ago I accepted my place at St. Antony's and returned all forms. Yesterday, however, I received a notification that Green Templeton has offered me a college-linked award with the Clarendon (I had already known about the Clarendon) and the University is transferring me to GTC from Antony's, even after I've filed all appropriate paperwork.

Those in the funding office say it is not out of the ordinary and they also say it's a good thing. I do believe them, but was wondering if anyone else here has ever heard of this happening and might offer some ideas as to whether this is a positive, negative, or neutral move...

Congratulations on the Clarendon. You must have selected to override your college choice to find a funded position, meaning your award would dictate where you would eventually end up, rather than your college choice. I don't know how the two colleges compare, but I would say its a neutral move, with them just sending you wherever it would be easiest to work out the scholarship.

I'm from South Africa -- got my undergraduate in the US. And yourself?
Hi guys congrats to your achievements first of all.

Secondly I also have a question:
I received a college offer from St Antony's. I have indicated in my application form that I ask the university to override my college choice, if funding is available. I am not oversees applicant.

I was wondering if I do accept this college place, will the department still search for a funded college place for me and in this case transfer me?

I think I saw a post on either this thread or on the Cambridge thread about someone who had been accepted to a college, but was being transferred to another because there was a financial award available for him/her. Not sure where it is exactly...

I remember that too - it was Oxford, although it may not have been on this particular thread. Somebody who had already accepted his offer at St Antony's was told that he had received a scholarship of some sort associated with Green Templeton.
yes thanks it was posted on this threat; actually on this page by the user FX1520. But I was wondering if the "pooling to another funded college" happens only if the applicant is Clarendon scholarship holder? Hence, only then the department tries to search for you a combined funding option? Well I am not Clarendon applicant ...

thanks

Yes indeed it was on this thread. I apologize for any confusion it may have caused. I recently spoke with the University about the switch and felt that my original post was no longer valid, so I removed it.

When I received word about the switch from Antony's to Green Templeton - I had already accepted my spot at St. Antony's. However, M.Sunshine is correct that the switch occurred because I hold Clarendon funding (and because my interests are more in line with the mission of GTC).

My advice to you (Sunshine) is to accept the place at St. Antony's, so that you have a secure place - even if funding is not found for your at another college. Unfortunately, I would imagine most funding has already been disbursed at this point?

I'm an American, born and educated. Don't be fooled by the "gregorio," I'm a gringo, I've just lived a few years in Latin American countries (Chile and El Salvador). See you in Oxford!

eek! I got an offer from Jesus college today! happy happy happy.
Is anyone here familiar with Msc Management Research? Just got an interview for this course today, so so anxious!!!
There's something i've got to get off my chest... I emailed the department about one of the two condtions they had set, as one of them was a bit odd (getting a distinction for my masters). I simply wanted to know what that would mean in terms of the grading system here.
What i got as reply was a third condition(related to my second bachelor)! And i still have to get 'the equivalent of a UK distinction for my masters'. Wow, simply wow...
