hey..anyone applied for university housing? I sent in my application last week but have not heard anything from them! Is there any hope for getting accommodation after applying so late??!
Probably not; I applied several months ago and they said it was very unlikely I'd get anything.

Hi guys - I am a late starter to the whole Forum thing but have been reading these posts with interest today. I applied on the Jan deadline for the MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management, got re-evaluated, and then following a telephone interview was offered a place at the end of April. My college choices are St Catz and Trinity, and I've not heard on this yet.

I've got 4 questions. 1) Is anyone else on this Forum on my course? 2) Has anyone heard on their colleges who was evelauted in the final round? (unlikely I guess) 3) Did anyone else apply to Catz/Trinity as their first/second choice - if so did you get in, and what's your course. Or 4) Has anyone been allocated Catz/Trinity even if it wasn't one of their choices - what course if so.

Bonus 5th question - I keep having this recurrent nightmare that I will be allocated St. Hilda's - genuinely wake up sweating. I am a bloke, but understand they now accept men too. Are there any chaps who have chosen/ been allocated St Hilda's?

May I ask why?

Yes, several. Just try searching the thread.

Well, it requires a rather graphic description of my nightmare, which I will spare you all.... However my concerns are assuaged somewhat by searching the posts, as you suggest. I guess any/ every experience is what one makes of it, regardless of the college.

Don't fear, you won't be the only male graduate there, if that's what you're worried about.
Think about it: the vast majority of postgraduate courses are one-year master's degrees like your own, which means that if you do end up there, the only people admitted before the college went mixed will be a few third-year DPhils, most of whom you'll never even see as they'll be too busy writing up and dreading their vivas. The 2008 and 2009 intake will be fully mixed, though, so in an absolute worst-case scenario you'd be looking at an MCR with a male:female ratio of about 40:60, which shouldn't really be all *that* terrible. 45:55 is actually more likely, because the majority of postgrads at Oxford are male. Obviously the figures are a bit different for the JCR, because undergraduates actually do all stay around for at least three years, but frankly, it's unlikely you'll be associating with undergraduates too much anyway, wherever you end up. You won't be living with them, you won't be going to the same lectures or classes and you won't be sitting the same exams. You'll only meet them at the dining hall and the bar and in societies, but that's it.
So there really is no reason why you should be scared of being pooled to Hilda's.

I have been pooled to St Hilda's as well. Have a look at the college grounds. The gardens are gorgeous, it's next to the river and the buildings are okay. Not the neogothic typical Oxford style but there are some pleasant Victorian buildings. The dining hall looks alright too.
Sounds lovely..you guys are lucky...I havent heard a word about college yet

Just wondering... For those who have been pooled, which colleges have you picked as 1st and 2nd choices?

I got home today to a form, "Application for a University Card".

It seems quite early to be filling this in, particularly as my college place is not 100% guaranteed.

Has anyone else had this sort of thing yet? (for Oct).

It does seem a bit early, but I'd still suggest that you fill it in and send it off as early as you can. If you don't, there's a chance that your bod-card won't be ready when you arrive in Oxford, which will be very, very annoying.

Thank you, I will be. The letter helpfully indicates where to sign and put my photo, but doesn't specify 'current status', so I will need to check that out (uni employee/otherwise employed/retired former staff/academic visitor/other association). Actually, that suggests it might be something departmental rather than student card? (I currently have a student card + visitor cards for 3 NHS trusts).

That sounds like you've got a form for a reader's card.
Sorry, maybe I misunderstood you there... What exactly is the form supposed to be for, who sent it to you and what does it say?

I'm  too, hence wondering whether it's something slightly different. The form was sent from the department, and actually this site seems to explain it a little more: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/registration/univcard.xml.ID=admin (it's a form S) - still confusing as I didn't think that studentship=staff.

No, definitely not. I'd say it looks as though your department sent you the wrong form by mistake.

anybody heard from their departments regarding admission?
