Me too! Does anybody know if they would suddenly require a high First from me? Or would "high" only apply to Upper Seconds but not to Firsts?

I'm so worried!!! :eek3: :eek3: :eek3:
i dont think they will want a high first from you

Cos I applied with a high First. In the previous semester I got a high 2:1, and I'm not sure if I can maintain a high 2:1 this semester. However, I can afford to get a low 2:2 this semester and still achieve a First overall. But this would look really bad to them... :eek3: :eek3: :eek3:
i dont even know if i will get a high 2.1...:woo:
A bit off-topic, but I don't know where else to ask this.

I know Oxford has set term dates for each year, but does anyone know how a postgraduates schedule would differ from the set term dates? Like, Michaelmas ends 5 December (I think), so does that mean graduate courses end that day as well, or will they continue on closer to Christmas? And what about other holidays? Are graduates normally expected to stay at Oxford for a majority of these holidays? (I'll be a one-year taught MSc, not a doctoral student, as I think this matters).

I'm just trying to figure out flights back to NY...

It's going to depend on your course, mine says we are expected to stay for the first couple weeks of each vacation to finish course work. You need to ask the department.

Also slightly off-topic, but how do you get your head around all the language?

I had no plans to go to Oxford; now I am trying to sort it out in a short period

Unfortunately, it's like we're both speaking different languages from each other when talking about facilities and possibilities (college hasn't had a student with my needs before). I have seen glossaries on various websites, but how quickly do you actually get into it in conversation? They are being stars in terms of helping :yep: , but breaking down the language barrier a little might help.

i applied to the january gathered field for sociology

i got an offer from the sociology department a month ago for a masters

still haven't heard from any colleges yet.

any idea how long it's going to take? have other january applicants got college places yet?
I am glad that I hadn't simply dreamed the fees for courses in the Department of Geography having been advertised at £9,500! I knew I had seen it somewhere...
Hey guys..I received offer letter from St Hilda's today!

For those who received their offers earlier..how did you guys give preference for accommodation? I couldn't find much info from their website!

Thanks!!

My offer letter had next to no information about accommodation except something about price bands. Like, do you want to pay this much or this much? But it didn't tell me what I would be paying for. They gave a very vague description about what accommodation is LIKE, but nothing specific. I ended up e-mailing the accommodations manager and asking. Or you could ring them. G'luck and congrats!
This is what I got back from the Fees Clerk about the increase in fees. Unfortunately it seems that all courses will be doing it in due course. We are just unlucky to be starting when we are :frown:

The Social Sciences Division, which the Department of Politics and International Relations belongs to, is part way through the process of completely reviewing the fees charged for all Social Science programmes. One of the reasons for increases is that the government does not provide sufficient funding and the fee increase helps to ensure programmes are viable. Programmes that do not have sufficient funding are at risk from being withdrawn.

In order for a fee to be increased the department must submit a case to the Division which is in turn submitted to the appropriate University committee. A supported case must be made in order for a programme fee to be significantly increased.

are you kidding...

Do you happen to know if this increase is just for home/eu students or for overseas as well (because overseas students already pay much more!)?

And I'm doing "social science" with the internet institute, not with the politics department. Do you think it will be included?

You know what, I'm gonna e-mail them. This truly sucketh if I find I have to pay even more. Boo.

This year it just seems to be Politics and International Relations and Geography. There is a list of fees on the graduate website. Most remain the same. Poor old me.

I don't think New College is en-suite, as it states on its MCR website that "each house has a large, modern kitchen with a dining area looking out onto the sports-field. This is the envy of all of Oxford! The six residents of a house share two showers,a bath and three toilets."
Yeah, New College accomm. is on their sports ground - lovely, central, but not en suite.
