What is the big ****ing deal with ensuite? People have been so obsessed with it these past few years for no apparent reason. Seriously, nobody needs it unless you have an illness or disability that requires you to have that kind of access to a bathroom.
Just put down New as 1st and Lincoln as 2nd choice. Hope I'll get either one of them.
Wanted Merton but they told me it's full.
What do you mean you *just* put down New and Lincoln? Do you mean you were able to declare your preferences a second time, ie. recently and long after your application?

Oh, because I have just been given a conditional offer after an interview, and they told me that my original 1st choice, Merton, is full, so they'll give my file to my original 2nd choice, New, and asked me to pick another 2nd choice.
Everybody does it - why do you care about a perfectly natural bodily function?
Well, if you're prepared to be suckered out of all that extra money just for that...
it's really not mainly about that, it's just toilet time is a significant part of my everyday life, news reading, solitary self reflection and all that
My offer letter had next to no information about accommodation except something about price bands. Like, do you want to pay this much or this much? But it didn't tell me what I would be paying for. They gave a very vague description about what accommodation is LIKE, but nothing specific. I ended up e-mailing the accommodations manager and asking. Or you could ring them. G'luck and congrats!
Thanks for the suggestion. I did receive info on price bands (after I called them up) but a very vague description of the accommodation itself! Oh well..lets see!
Can anyone tell me a bit more about st. hilda's..i really dont know much about it! Any stereotypes I should be aware of?

And you can't just read, reflect etc while out walking on a nice day or lying on your bed in your room...you have to be on the crapper at the same time? Well, OK then
Clomipramine
Nothing feels better than not having the need to look at the toilet seat to see if it's clean before sitting down, especially when it's urgent.
Having lived in non-ensuite uni accommodation for three years at university, the loo seat was ALWAYS clean. Everyone else on the planet isn't a complete dog, you know, and they even send cleaners round to clean it if it's uni accommodation

it will take a long time to explain how the process of defecation aids thinking, but why are you so obsessed with debating about the RELATIVE importance of en-suite, ppl like us have to exist that's why en-suites exist. did someone with a preference for en-suite hurt you deeply in the past, or you just enjoy debating on such random topics

Well, my university's non-ensuite accommodation is more often dirty than not. Sometimes it's downright disgusting.
So I decided that I want to have en-suite during postgrad if possible.
germaineilya - not at all. I've just lived in both (non ensuite three years, ensuite one year) and it just isn't worth all that money. Never had to queue for a shower either, so really can't see much advantage.
I can imagine...Where are you living now? I am only excited about relocating. Oxford compared to my closet office in a giant highrise....doesnt sound too bad.
Hey NY. I'll be relocating to Oxford from South Asia...hence the nerves plus excitement.
New York must be great (despite the space constraints!)...have always loved the city.
