Thanks Chochu. In my haste to send off all my paperwork -- it looks like I forgot a very important document. :frown: I'll probably be reapplying as soon as I get my passport back...

Even if you didn't include it I doubt they would just reject you...I certainly hope not. Besides, according to their Tier 4 plan (read WHATEVER), you just need your visa letter and your finances, as that amounts to 40 points. Good luck anyways, and do keep us posted. I really hope you don't have to apply again.

Chochu,

I just checked the mail this morning and my visa did arrive! I guess transcripts aren't absolutely essential if you have the other required documents.

Nice...Congratulations. I guess its easier to be hopeful about others than yourself so I ended up not wanting to take any chances so just ordered transcripts from my college using express mail. these costs are adding up...

Hello fellow St Cross-er. Can I just say that I hate you :p: I wanted housing on the main site! There was no way I would have gotten it...

PS - who wants to decipher the vague email from the Politics dept?
"We get sent the visa template for completion as soon as it is possible to issue it to you. Once we have it, we will send it asap"
- Yes, they won't tell me how or what I have to do to get a visa letter. It's like guessing what they need to have, so that they can get a visa template. :eek3:

Basically, you have to fulfill all the conditions set forth by the department and the college. Once you have met all the college requirements, they update it to some mysterious internal Oxford network, which will notify the department that they can now issue a visa letter. The system apparently automatically creates a template for your visa letter, which they will email to you to check for details, after which they will mail it to you.

This information is based on my own experience and what the department told me.

Oh, and then Royal mail says its with USPS for delivery in the US while USPS says they have been notified that the original country (UK) is preparing for dispatch. Good stuff, as always.

Oxford - more complex than NASA.

i was allocated housing a few months back. i sent the form in pretty much as soon as I received it. i haven't signed on to TSR in ages...

i suppose (because i have never visited oxford), i'm gearing up for a pleasant shock. i hear st. cross is a small graduate community -- plenty of opportunity to meet and befriend students from other departments. and reviews say that the food is good. i haven't found much regarding the residential experience. i hope to buy a second-hand bicycle. does anyone plan to do the same? is there a farmers' market in oxford? i suspect as much, although i will be on a tight food budget. blah blah blah -- i could go on for ages.

If you've get a bike, you might as well cycle to the Tesco on Cowley Rd (about a mile, maybe 1.5 miles) from St Cross, chances are it will be cheaper than the farmers market at St Cross. And what you can cook will probably be limited by what kitchen facilities StX provide - many colleges think that a hob and kettle constitute self catering (with a toaster and microwave if you're lucky).

I was on a very tight budget during my year at Oxford...I shopped at Sainsbury's at Westgate (?)..basically weekly supply stocks... and could eat for real cheap. I was lucky to have a pretty decent kitchen at LMH two doors down from me. Because I was eating on my own most times, I also ended up enjoying hall food when I was too lazy or busy; most people complained a lot about hall food otherwise. As Athena pointed out, farmers' market will probably be more expensive but there'll be one very close to stx...i believe they convene every saturday morning at the square behind the bus station and have quite a variety.

As regards a bicycle, i am planning on biting the bullet and getting a good first hand bike. I bought the cheapest bike from Oxford King (or Cycle King?) last year (100 pounds including light and basket--which was handy for my shopping) but it was a major disappointment. As I expect to bike pretty much every day all year round, I think the investment will be worth it. If you are lucky to find a good second hand bike though, go for it. The added bonus of a new bike is that you get free service for like three months or something.
Oxford is really annoying me now. I have been waiting for ages to even simply be attached to a college, despite meeting the first deadline for sending everything in. Everything I am meant to do is in. Still no college, definitely looks like no acoomodation.

I want them to hurry up so I can compare everything on the same level as Cambridge who are all finished and ready for me to sign if I choose to.

Hey guys! I got accepted to the MPhil Economics programme and have confirmed that I'll take up my place with both my college and the department (where the deadline is early July). Do you guys have any idea approximately when I'll get the official contract? I just don't want to be away on holiday somewhere and miss the deadline for sending it back.

Dear Lodovico,

I have read in this forum that you have successfully applied to both cambridge and oxford for the mphil in economics: as I am an Italian student interested in the same type of academic career, I would like to ask you if you could please tell me something about your previous academic achievements, which university you attended and at what level (undergrad, master...) and what other kind of achievements you feel have proven to be useful to obtain your admission at oxbridge.

Thank you very (very, very!) much in advance, I hope to hear from you soon

To those who have applied for their visas, did you include your undergraduate degree certificate? I misplaced this years ago, and the only thing I have is my transcript, along with financial statements and visa letter. Will this be ok?

Yeah, an official transcript should suffice. There's another "comprehensive" thread in the International Lounge about visa applications that will be helpful to people confused/worried about their visas:

Thanks, that was a very informative thread!

Can someone please just confirm to me from their visa letter that Oxford's sponsor license is UED4UGNF1? I read that one girl's visa got refused because her university had typed in the wrong number.

Thanks!

I'm still waiting for my contracts... Am I the only one?
It is not clear to me if I will receive the university contract only after meeting all the conditions of the college or if the two contracts (uni and college) will be sent together.

The University will not send its contract until the college confirms that all its conditions have been met. My college, however, also said that they would send me some more things to sign after they receive my signed university contract.
