At the start. You used a subtraction in the first equation

I have recently been learning about this in Maths at school (year 10 top set class.) From what I can see, you have got everything right. However, you might want to mention that you are using SSS (Same Sign Subtract) and also what you are eliminating (because you were finding y at first you would have eliminated x.) Try that and let me know how it goes.

Oh yeah I just realised that as well. You would use DSA (Different Sign Add.)

If bad things happen to good people, that's bad. So yes it would be.

Positive × Positive = Positive
Positive × Negative = Negative
Negative × Positive = Negative
Negative × Negative = Positive

How have you multiplied 3(2x+4y) to get 6x-12y? (This is wrong, as was pointed out in the first reply to your post).

You need to make sure either X or Y are the same in both equations.

Not sure how that's relevant to my point (that there's a sign error).
