Oxbridge offer as 5th option to medicine applications?

Hey guys,
Any idea if anyone has gotten into Cambridge natsci or Oxford Biochemistry as a 5th choice after applying for medicine for their other 4 choices at other unis? This sounds very arrogant but the medicine offers would probably be taken up if the Oxbridge application is rejected.
I believe Cambridge NatSci states they do not consider medicine personal statements from applicants (i.e. you would be unsuccessful), and Oxford biomedical sciences definitely says this, and I imagine biochemistry there would have a similar perspective.
simply based on personal statement, there's surely no way a medicine applicant could pass for a strong natsci applicant, and biochem would be almost as unlikely

With 4 applications for Medicine, neither Cambridge or Oxford would believe that you have a passion for the other subject for which you are applying.

Are you saying Oxbridge would actually be your 1st choice, with 4 medicine backups? Or do I misunderstand?

I think you need to appreciate that medicine opens an entire lifelong career. Deciding your entire future life is hardly something you should leave to the chance of whether you get into Oxbridge or not - either you want to do medicine, or you don't. Doubts are fine, but you have to make the decision and act on it, not some halfway house.
Hi, just jumping in to bring up a slightly different point: I’m not sure if you were planning on doing this, but you can only apply for one course at Cambridge, so you wouldn’t be able to apply to both Medicine and NatSci. I wanted to apply for both History and History & Politics but was told by the admissions department I needed to pick one before I submitted my application. I’m not certain about Oxford but I’m guessing they’d have a similar policy. All the best, whatever you decide!
by the way thought I'd add for the spice. I know of atleast 1 person who applied for medicine everywhere and like some german course at cambridge and got accepted. Obviously they must've smashed the entrance exam to get an interview with a medicine personal statement and the college choice will have made an impact. Then they must've written just enough on the second option personal statement that is cambridge specific explaining themselves lol.

Same for Oxford - UCAS won't accept it in the same way they won't let you apply to both Oxford and Cambridge.

Hi,

My name is Lola and I am thinking about applying to the exact same subjects. I was just wondering if you did end up applying to Cambridge natsci or Oxford biochem as your 5th option and if so, did you get offers from either?

Thank you so much.

I'm not affiliated to the original post but I do know of someone who did this. They applied for medicine elsewhere and biological natural sciences at Cambridge, which they then went on to do before doing grad med. I think it's rare and I wouldn't advise doing it unless you were very confident. The fifth choice is supposed to be a back-up in case you get no offers.
