What kind of poetry do you like (if any)? Lighter or darker themes? Any style or form you prefer? Written by women or men? You want to find something you enjoy reading as well as writing about if you can.

If you don't really mind what type or don't really care, there are lots of poets to choose from. Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes, Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Simon Armitage, Seamus Heaney, lots. Try just looking up 20th/21st century poets on wikipedia or something and picking a name that looks interesting. My favourite personally is probably Vicki Feaver or Patience Agbabi but they're often quite... mature in their themes, so be aware of that if you look at them.
