Second year next year?

I feel robbed of a year of uni.
What even is the second year? buckle down year?
We haven't even got to experience uni life.
I hope the best for us all but I am doubtful.....
I feel u. I went into uni thinking I'd make friends. Now I haven't had friends in 3 years. ;(

The lock-downs will likely continue (tried to do stealth lock-downs and gave hints since the roadmap first came out.)

Its terrible and I do feel for you. Hopefully lock-downs will be done soon.

Hi there!

I completely understand how you're feeling! It's super hard and difficult especially because of the pandemic and all the lockdowns we've had. Are your university holding any events now restrictions are lifting? Did you join any clubs and societies in your first year? If so, try to go to any social events they hold. If you're not part of any societies, maybe try and see if there's any you'd like to join! As a second year student, I can say this year has been challenging, however I have been able to manage my workload as well as giving myself time to socialise and go out and enjoy what I could at the time (dependant on the restrictions of course). Fingers crossed by the second semester of you second year and by your final year, the pandemic situation would have eased and a bit of normality can remain!

Hi there,

I hope you're well

I completely can relate to how you feel, it's as though university is quite a short experience anyway - and with Corona it just feels even shorter!
For me, second year was a bit of a step up from first year, in terms of the quality of work expected so it's best to be as prepared as you can. The best advice I got, was to treat Uni like a 9-5 job (with the weekends off!), and after that - it's YOUR time, and that's your time to really experience university life and make memories!

I hope that's helpful

I feel you OP. I’ve basically given up with my degree (I am first year) and I don’t feel it will ever get better

uhh that makes it worse
i have around 4 months till second year and I have nothing to do. i literally have 0 friends. I'm trying to find full time work now during this holiday but my anxiety has gotten so much worse bc of the pandemic. so I have no idea how I'm gonna make friends in second year.

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear that. Have you seen if there are any volunteering opportunities in your local area? This could be good to meet people in your area as well as build your CV a bit. Remember to be easy on yourself too, this year's been so incredibly difficult! As well, try not to stress (I know, easier said than done!) about next year & being fearful of not making friends - there will still be tutorials where you can make friends with peers, and friends come around in the funniest of ways!

I hope that helps
