How much do you get paid roughly for a high street estate agency? Also, they say you have to have a car, as you may have to make visits, but, if your willing to use public transport/taxi, does it really matter?

It's a very bad time to go into this area. The basic pay is awful, and your wages are mostly made up of commission. But with the economic climate, not many people are buying/selling and thus there isn't much commission available.

Most estate agents re selling one house a week on average. I very much doubt you would find employment in this sector at present...they simply don't need you as an overhead

Yeah I'll just echo what these guys have already said. Now is really not a good time to get in to property sales. Your basic salary isn't generally great and because it is very much commission based you are unlikely to make many sales in the current economic climate. However, perhaps you could go for a lettings negotiator? This may work out better because there is more of a demand for rentals at the moment (people have to live somewhere!) and you also get residual commission on it (i.e. not a lump sum but a set amount per week/month).

what's the difference between an estate agent and a large pizza ?

a large pizza can feed a family ....

seriously now is not a good time to be making a move into that field of business ...
