my geography epq is on the housing crisis and about building on greenbelt land - any suggestions of where in the UK I could focus on or any websites / data that would be useful?

For the case studies we did in class, we focused on London, as there is a lot of information you can find about the housing crisis and building on greenbelt land. Have a look specifically at regeneration used to combat the housing crisis, and techniques such as building on brownfield sites. You could also have a look at the London Docklands Regeneration Project. For the preservation of the greenbelt, we had a look at local areas, for example, as our school is in Leeds, we studied Bradford, and watched a documentary about 'the battle of the greenbelt.' I'm unable to find the exact video that we watched, but if you search on youtube there are plenty of case studies and debates, which are good because they provide both positives and negatives of building on the greenbelt as a solution to the housing crisis.
For the housing crisis, research possible solutions such as:
- Key villages (selecting one village in a new area for homes, leaving other villages unchanged)
- Empty homes (there are over 250,000 empty homes in Britain that could be renovated/reused)
- Office conversion (empty office blocks in city centers could be converted into flats)
- Derelict land (brownfield sites used for housing)
- Urban expansion (extending cities into green space around the edge - this puts strain on the rural/urban fringe and encourages urban sprawl)
- New settlements (build new towns and villages on greenfield sites)

I hope this was helpful in some way, and good luck with your epq!
