Good time to learn to drive?

I just finished my final university subjects so I have enough time to learn to drive. However I've heard that the lockdown made a huge backlog in driving tests (or something along those lines). Does anyone with more knowledge on this sort of thing know if it's worth me applying for lessons now or whether it's so in demand right now that it would take ages to go through the process and I should just wait and do other important things with my time?

I had my original theory booked in October 2020 - it got pushed to April 2021
I had my original practical booked for August 2021 - passed today
I got the new date using Testi which is a cancellation app
It is worth doing because you will get people cancelling theory/practical tests all year
