Apprenticeship or Level 3 Extended Diploma at College?

Hi,

Earlier this year, I received a conditional offer at a local college for a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Administration. I have also been offered a role as an apprentice and now my family don’t think that the apprenticeship route is a good idea.

I would like to go on to do a HNC in Business Management.

Please could I have some advice. Thanks.

It depends on the apprenticeship. Mainly the level and if it’s something you’d enjoy.

If the above applies then it’s advantageous in giving you skills to increase your employability after your course, relative to what full time college would offer.

I did a level 3 apprenticeship and went on to accept a degree apprenticeship. A colleague went to university full time after his. If you’re aiming for higher education I.e. a HNC, HND, or foundation degree, an apprenticeship would likely better prepare you and broaden your options due to the skills you’d gain during your apprenticeship.

I find the older generations misinterpret college. It’s very specialised relative to the equivalent A-levels, and narrows your career options but without any relevant work experience.

I studied at college both full and part time, and saw full time college an option for those who either didn’t have a job, or don’t have the required A levels. An apprenticeship is better than full time college in my opinion.
