mechanics quick questionn

if the question says that the magnitude of the thrust in the tow bar (connecting a car and a caravan) is 200N and the car and the caravan are decelerating, which direction is the thrust acting in lol 😭

sorry if this is a stupid question

Thrust is when the towbar is in compression, so the force is acting outwards.
Tension is when the towbar is "expanded", so the force is acting inwards.

So in this case the caravan would be pushing the car forwards, and the car pushing the caravan backwards, which is what you'd typically expect when decelerating.
