Polden Accommodation

Hi, I've firmed Bath and am now deciding on accommodation. I'm considering putting Polden (not Polden Court) as my first choice of accommodation, however I haven't seen that many discussions about Polden since it is so new. I have read a couple of posts saying that Polden isn't very sociable, or is full of foreign students.

I haven't got any issues with foreign students, however I am just concerned that if I get put into a flat with a bunch of Chinese students, for example, I may get left out of socialising and struggle to make friends with them (if they are all speaking Chinese).

Please could anyone with any experiences of Polden give me some advice on the social life at Polden, and whether I should choose it as my first choice or not? (if not Polden, I would put Quads as my first choice)

I am also gonna put Polden or Woodland down as my first choice, and from what I've read, it does seem like Polden has many more international students than a lot of other accommodation options because it is more expensive, and less international students are taking out loans so can afford it. However I've also seen that its not like full of international students only. I'm classed as a home student but have been living abroad from the past 14 years so there's also cases like that. Woodland also has a lot of international students.
Also, for the quads, the rooms are much smaller, so if room size is high up on your list, I would go for Polden over quads because it seems much more cramped.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on firming Bath, that is great news :smile:

I don't have a personal experience of Polden, as I stayed in Quads in my first year, which I throughly enjoyed despite the rooms being smaller. With the Quads the rooms are modern and ensuite and have both a social space and kitchen, which many accommodations do not have. I also found the Quads very sociable.

Both Poldens on the other hand you are right does typically have more international students, but both accommodations are modern and ensuite and have bigger rooms than the quads. At the end of the day, it is personal choice with what you want to prioritise. The accommodation website is a great place to help you make your decision as it is has a wealth of detailed information, which you can check out here.
