Cambridge Veterinary Medicine Students and Applicants

Hi everyone

I'm interested in applying for Vet Med at Cambridge but I've heard a lot of people say that it's not necessarily so good for Vet Med because students don't get so much clinical experience. I was wondering if this was true? If I was to get into Cambridge would my clinical skills be behind those of other applicants and would it be harder to get a job?

I really like Cambridge and these are my only two issues so if somebody could set my mind at rest that would be really appreciated

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

What I've heard is that Cambridge's vet med course is much more research/academic study-oriented than practice side than other universities/vet schools. If your final goal is to become a practising vet rather than a researcher or an academic, maybe a vet school is a better option?
They do do practicals, though, you know? A couple of boys I know who're reading/read vet med at Cambridge had a special permission to keep their car in their colleges' car parks because they needed to travel to the places of practicals that is often quite away from the town. How much less/more practicals they do compared to other unis/vet schools, I have no idea, I'm afraid....

Hello,

I am a graduate looking to apply to the veterinary medicine course starting in 2017.

A Levels: A* Biology, A German, B Mathematics (Achieved in 2012)
Degree: Biological Sciences (Animal Biology) - 2:1 61% (exceptional extenuating circumstances as to low mark)

I would be willing to sit an AS or A Level Chemistry in June 2017.

What would improve my chances of getting in? Ample work experience before application and a solid BMAT score? Moreover, which colleges would be the best to apply to - Lucy Cavendish, Wolfson or St. Edmund's College?
Anyone applied for 2017?

I'm just an anxious parent but yes, waiting on BMAT which, I'm told, was horrible.
