Hello,
My exams didn't go well last months. I simply ****ed up and I think my teachers will award me with BBC-BCC. Those grades aren't enough for me to meet my entry requirements for my course which is AAB and ABB.
This leaves me with 2 options:
1) Clearing into non-target university with my current grades.
The main benefit of this pathway is that I don't have to waste a year of my life at home. However, there is one huge disadvantage which is sticking foot in a bank’s door. From my research I found that its extremely difficult nearly impossible to land an internship if you're not graduating from target/semi- target university. The reason being that IB recruit from certain universities which already have high filtering so they don't have to do it again during their recruitment process which saves them time and money. Statistically in 2017 49% of Analysts in GS,JPM and MS graduated from target universities (LSE, Oxbridge, Imperial, Warwick, UCL), 18,6% came from semi-targets (Durham, Nottingham, Loughborough, Bristol and etc) and only 1.3% are from non-target universities (the rest is international universities [31%]). Idk how is it different now in post covid world but I don't think it has changed much.
2) Retaking A levels in October.
Retaking A levels will give me a change of getting into Target/semi-target university. Universities accept retakes so there shouldn’t be an issue. Retakes this year will be taking place in October and the result supposed to be given by December. However, idk the attitude of recruiters in IB towards A level retakers. There isn’t much information about it but some forums suggest that there shouldn’t be an issue unless they deliberately ask for it during application process. On the other hand retaking A level means you have to stay at home which can be quite frustrating/demotivating factor.
Thank you for taking time to read this. And I would like to hear your thoughts in a comments.
If you know any retakers, please connect them with me I want to ask them some questions about their experience.
