I've applied for that! There are a limited number of English Language students on TSR, however, I find it so much more relevant and fasinating than literature. Each to their own though I suppose! Sent my application on the 22nd Nov, but substituted for King's so they only got my application on 04 Dec. Heard nothing as of yet. What about everybody else?

oh finallyyyyyyyyyyy someone applied for that course too!
whats TSR? yeh mine was sent around that time and still nothing...ive only heard back from reading for english language...what other unis did u apply to?
i havent even checked out KCL but i know its an amzing uni from what people say and the course content seems really interesting...

Ooh, I have a couple! You might regret offering yourself up to be plagued by us! :p:

1. Do you know when the Visit Days are? Hopefully I won't need to book any more than a day off work for them, but if I do I need a month's notice minimum, which is a bit crappy.
2. How, timewise, do they fit in the 8 modules per year? Is it four modules for the first two terms, with four sets of seminar/lectures per week? Or do they put some of them in the third term/spend half a term on two modules, and the other half on another two?
3. Do they offer Erasmus?

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I was away for the Christmas and New Year breaks. I haven't slept since last year, literally , so apologies if this post isn't very well constructed.

1- I can't tell you when the Open Days are because they haven't been announced yet but that page does say they will be announced in the new year, so keep checking. If you're ever in London, however, then you can just help yourself to a tour of the Strand campus, where English students are based. You don't need ID to get in and out, and staff are aware that prospective students will be around at this time of year and are usually happy to help!

2- The former is more correct. You take 4 modules per semester, so that's 4 between September and January and 4 between January and Summer. For each module, you have one lecture and one seminar per week, with the former coming before the latter so you know what you're discussing during the seminar :p: In the second semester, you get to pick a module, but the other 7 are compulsory. In the second year you have a lot more freedom. The modules, I find, are all really good and varied, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

3- Yes, as well as other study abroad opportunities. They have information days specifically about that about a month into the first term and also send emails round.

Ooo, looks like I managed to get through that without a trace of regret! :p:

Are Kings usually realllly slow at getting back to people?

In my experience and that of those around me, definitely! It's worth noting, though, that taking long to reply doesn't mean a rejection or even that the likelihood of rejection is somehow increased. If anything, the opposite is truer because a lot of people who are rejected are rejected quite early.

well i got a reply in a month, which isn't that long.

Modern Greek and Byzantine studies (which is the module I'll be studying this semester as my optional!) is a relatively small department, which is probably why.

Ok, I didn't know if they had post-application Visit Days decided on as opposed to the pre-application ones, but I'm planning to go to London with a friend anyway, so I'll go in and have a look round! Thanks!

Ooh, that's cool. I really like the look of the module list I found!

I'm applying for physiotherapy, got me offer and I'm soon going to put it as my firm.
Just got to start thinking about accommodation now!

I've looked everywhere on the website, and can't see the opening dates for the department anywhere :frown: I really want to know, even though I know there's only a fortnight of waiting left anyway!

How canst thou know this? You mean for the deadline? Hopefully offers will come in after that unless they interview loads. It says on the website they try to interview the majority...whatever that means :P

meaning they don't interview the crap candidates. they interview everyone who they could conceive as being acceptable.

hey...got my offer for English Language and Communication sometime ago...with my welcome pack i received an introductory letter detailing the arrangements for the open afternoons....the first is on Wednesday 21 January and the second is on Wednesday 4th February.
I quote (lol) "Both begin at 2.00pm and are expected to last until about 5.00pm". It also says you have to contact them in order to confirm if your attending or not..I think i'll probably go to the January one although haven't confirmed with them yet.
There's also a programme schedule for this chosen course and a small map of the Waterloo Campus (the English one) to inform anyone who doesn't know how to get there...

Er... no they don't, I'm sure? They interview borderline candidates.
Besides, I'm pretty sure quite a few people on here have been given English offers before interview (don't go by the first post, it's not been updated for aaaages).

*Looks at Johannski's signature* UCL interview most candidates, so that's probably what you're thinking about!

I thought they only interviewed borderlines and mature students, so you may be right about her confusing KCL and UCL.
That said, there was someone maybe a month or so ago who said she was getting interviewed for English... it seemed early to me for interviews to be handed out, so perhaps they have the option this year to interview more than usual? :s-smilie:
I actually wouldn't mind an interview, the 4 people I've had 'mock'ish ones with said I had a natural enthusiasm (and that my fringe annoyed them...haha :p:
Reply 493
Al people with offers for history , have you been interviewed, or do they only interview borderline?
