Hey! I’m thinking of doing a dna test with ancestry in the hopes of finding my dad - or family members relating to him - who doesn’t know that I exist. I don’t have a close relationship with my mum and she’s never told me much about him. It seems to be my only hope as I only have a first name for him. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

I really hope you find your Dad.

I have personally done an AncestryDNA test, and have had familial connections in the bracket of 4th-6th cousins messaging me, from countries all over (ie. Belgium) asking me questions. It saves it to a database. I am not sure how accurate it is, mind you I live in the southern hemisphere.

Ultimately, it will boil down to you messaging the closest DNA matches and asking them one by one, to gather information that may be helpful.
