Weren't they a bit faster last year? I swear everything got sorted before term started.

Last year was done through LEA's, this year it's being done through a centralised department which is trying it's best to cock up as many applications as possible

Yeah, last year I had everythign ready well in advance.:frown:

If it's not sorted before enrollment, they get you to set u a direct debit and delay it's start by a couple of months until the student finance is sorted, so you can enroll.

I hope things run smoothely from here on in for you!

Are we talking about the same stuff?

I meant all about the loan to cover the tuition fees - unfortunately I'm not eligible for any kind of maintenance loan or grants or anything, haven't been in the UK long enough and am a non-UK citizen, so I can only apply for the financial help with fees for the uni and nothing else :frown:

As far as I know - and that's how I did it the last time I enrolled, 2 years ago on my previous course, before taking a gap year, lol - money for tuition fees does not reach my account, I'm just being sent a letter that states I have been given a loan and I have to produce it, and then money goes straight to the university's bank account. Can't see any point where my direct debit would fit in, but on the other hand I'm generally pretty rubbish when it comes to the bank stuff, so... :p: lol

Nah, that's how mine is done. Just show them the letter when you enrol, and they'll know the money's coming

Yup, we are. In order to enroll the university has to know that the tuition fees are going to come from somewhere, the student finance people, yourself, a sponsor. SO they set up a direct debit mandate, but don't take any money until an agreed date, before which, if your loan for tuition fees comes through, you tell them and they take the loan and leave your account alone.

Yeah, just the problem is that there seems to be a massive cock-up of sorts. I have been told that my application is going to be processed once I pay back what I owe them, I paid it back, been told it's gonna be processed and I'm gonna be given the loan, then I've received a letter that says:

Course fee amount: £3255.0
Maximum loan available: £0
Loan requested: £0
Loan to be paid: £0
The amount you need to pay to your university/college: £3255.0

I mean, WTF?

And then they phone me saying there are some problems still, because the uni I have never attended has taken the money they shouldn't have even touched.

I've been on the phone to them and my attempted uni, tried to clear this out, will keep on trying to solve that dumb-ass jigsaw puzzle tomorrow or something. Bottom line, I might just ask them to fax me something, dunno, but they seem to send contradictory responses and every attempt at contacting them starts to more and more remind me of a trip to monkey forest

I feel it's gonna be all good, it's just that I'm already tired with all this mess they're in, I'd love to just get a final letter and go to uni and forget about those dorks-at-loose-ends for a year

Oh really? That is awesome, makes me a bit more calm. Was afraid I might not get on time with getting it all straight before the enrollment day or something and that uni won't let me in :frown:

Good to know I should have some extra time, then

Apparently something similar has happened to quite a lot of people lately, I just think SFE is the most useless pile of **** i've ever had the misfortune of using.

So I'm not alone, then? Thanks god, lol - well, will continue the battle tomorrow, right after the bank holiday. Have to have it sorted out mostly this week, though, as I'm legging it from the UK on the 7th and come back right before the move-in date :p:

Thanks for all the good words, guys, you're really awesome and have helped me to calm down a lot!

I might take you up on that! Meh, sirens don't bother me I hear them a lot over here.

The exact same thing with the letter reading £0 for the tutition fee loan has happened to me aswell, I'm hoping that when they sort out my means testing loan, they'll alter that aswell. Either way I feel another phonecall is on the way if they don't sort this out in the next couple of days. I want it all done and dusted by the time we move in :s-smilie:

Yeah, I mean, it's like - I think I'm gonna send my application for 2010/2011 in January, or something, just in case they want to replay their 2009 antics or anyhow happily play again the blindman's buff :s

Just, really, want to have it all done and not have to deal with them anymore for at least a few months. Plus my phone bills because of the insane amount of calls and being on hold every single time for 10 minutes or so have become exorbitant :eek3:
