Getting a maintenance loan if you're legally not entitled to, when there are other people in the long chain of students who really need it, and spending that on a "CAR" and "INSURANCE" is a bit... Chavvy? :lolwut:

IMO.

Err, unless i'm mistaken, me getting a loan is not putting anyone on a waiting list. Everyone gets one if they apply for it so I why would I feel bad?

What I do with my money is my business anyways, i'm sure you woudn't want me to speculate on what you are going to do with it...maybe a new cap or fur coat?...btw i'm the chav....sigh...

Different strokes for different folks, I just would not feel right commiting a fraud of sorts. Loans are for people who need them to support themselves because of living away from home/their parents not being able to help them financially etc. If everyone was to do what you do, the system would have tumbled a long time ago. It has already started falling apart IMO (just look at all those problems this year and people being refused loans, even though legally they're entitled to them), I suppose that frauds that are being commited are not actually without any influence on that.

Nah man, schnorring benefits and scrounging financial help from the welfare state to spend it on cars/clothes/jewellery does. It's not what the financial aid has been designed for, and unless certain individuals will stop doing this (or more enlightened ones won't put a stop to aforementioned individuals pursuing said actions) we'll keep on spiralling down into deep, deep ****, especially during the recession.

Loan has been designed to help people who are away from home and/or have got financial difficulties, to make it easier for them to study without having to worry about accommodation, food and such. Living at home, with parents, while you're 19+ and not having a job, or using the money that comes in from a job to buy some woofers for your fancy pimped-up car does not fall into this category. IMO.

That's true - however you should bear in mind, that right now it's the money that people have paid in taxes that you want to spend. But, yes, you'll be obliged to pay it back sooner or later, so at the end of the day it's "your" money, yes. It speaks a lot about yourself and your attitude, nonetheless, and this is an attitude that - I dare to say - not necessarily many people would and will like, considering the current economic climate around all of us.

i'm sure you woudn't want me to speculate on what you are going to do with it...

I'm an EU-citizen who has been living here, in this country for some time, and working full-time and paying taxes. I'm not eligible for the maintenance loan, so you need not to worry about that. I also happen to be lucky enough to keep my current full-time and freelance job while at university, so I don't have to find a way to circumvent the system and exploit the hell out of it :wink:
