Question: When a current is switched on in a solenoid, do the coils attract or repel each other? Describe How, given any apparatus you might reasonably expect to find in your laboratory, you might investigate this effect quantitiatively.

Pretty sure for the first bit that they attract... but Can't think how to do the 2nd bit.

A solenoid is similar to an electro magnet.

Right, and using N and S rule to find out North and South poles. But the field inside the solenoid is from South to North.
