Hi, I’m taking A level psychology from an online course and they have said that they can’t provide me with a reference, however I will have 3 others from my tutor, English teacher and History teacher when I completed them last year; does it matter if I only have references from 3 out 4 teachers and will it get held against me if I apply for a competitive course/Uni?

You only have one reference.

Usually this will include comments on each of your subjects. If you’re taking an A level privately then speak to your school about who will write your reference. Ask them to explain that your exam centre isn’t able to provide any details about your studies within your reference. That will also explain why there’s no predicted grade provided for psychology too. Your school referee might be happy to add in a short sentence about what you’re enjoying about psychology based on a conversation with you.

Universities will understand.

it shouldn't be held against you, all your references are combined into one so all the teachers write one and are added together sometimes with a small part written by a head of year or tutor.
