How is academic writing different from other writing?

It's quite different when you read it, it sort of engages with your brain in a way that sparks thought processes.

I've been reading a lot of academic texts for uni, and it's difficult to get through, you can tell its written to be deconstructed rather than skimmed through.

I'd suggest to read plenty of articles and other texts to get a feel for it, and that helps to write better academically as well.
