Hi I started Uni of Nottingham in September 2020 but I haven’t liked it and I want to restart uni at Leeds or Manchester. I’m trying to do a UCAS application but I’m not sure how much I should acknowledge in my personal statement or elsewhere that I have already been at uni for a year and want to restart? Looking at my personal statement from last year (which was pre-covid) I feel like a lot of it isn’t applicable now- is it silly to be writing about how my A level subjects and EPQ enhanced my interest in a subject when I’ve already been at uni for a year? I studied History, English lit and Latin at A level and I’ve been doing History and Politics at uni. I’m applying for History at Leeds, and both History and History and Politics at Manchester.

At the same time, some of the things I talked about in my last personal statement like talks I went to etc I feel are still relevant especially since covid has meant I haven’t been able to build on this much.

Thanks.

Your PS you can mention it if you want to. It’s a good idea to talk about your university study if you’re hoping to study a similar course.

It MUST be declared in your education section.

Discuss whatever is relevant to your suitability and motivation for the new course. For some people, that will be mostly AL and x-curriculars and nothing about the other UG course. For others, it’s could be the UG course and work experience etc. Don’t feel obliged to use a lot of space on periods of study if they are not relevant.
