Why do people find it weird and say mean things when I use a parasol in the sun?

I put on suncream every 2 hours but I want to keep my skin covered as well. I normally wear long sleeves and tights as well because I do not want to get tanned. I'm an East Asian girl btw.
Why do people find this weird?

Probably because that's just not a thing in British culture. You can keep doing it if your skin burns without it, up to you if it's worth it, but you will always get odd looks and comments about it.

Lots of people here love to have a suntan. It's generally uncommon for British people to avoid the sun to the extent that you do, so people may have just not come across it before.

British people like getting sun burnt so parasols are an alien concept to them.
