Hi, our school put out a message today saying that they were aware of a group of 3 people smoking during study breaks, outside the school grounds. The group chat that the majority of the boys in my year are on have worked out (not officially) between them a list of 5 ish people it was - based on who they knew was smoking recently. One of them is a friend of mine who has been a bit cold towards me recently. They are thinking of sending an anonymous tip to the school with my friend's name included. The school want to know who it is otherwise privileges are rescinded. What does everyone think is the right thing to do??

It's a tricky situation. Obviously, your friend shouldn't be smoking on school grounds, but at the same time he's your friend and your probably don't want to go behind his back. I think you need to chose what's more important to you: the rules or your friend.

I'd stay out of it and likely warn my friend. Otherwise none of your business and frankly you shouldn't be siding with your school against your peers if they're not hurting anyone imo, no one is going to thank you for tattling.
