Im a parent myself, and both my daughters are 16 and 19, and naturally parents are worried their kids are going to fall in 'love' and get hurt. So yeah ive given them the talk about ' taking your time' and not to rush things until they are ready. But I havent said that loves not real because they only want something from you. Sounds like a very jaded point of view. Are they happy themselves? Usually if someone says that they are either a) not happy with the person they are with, b) not happy with themselves, or c) been hurt too many times in the past and never fully opened up to love.

My advice to you is if you do meet someone is not to rush into anything so you get the trust built up and take time to know them properly, and only go any further when you are ready. And if you do get to the physical stage, be careful (if you know what i mean). Every time.

It's real, your parents are only making general conclusions from their perspective alone.

Yes, undoubtedly. Your parents are projecting their own hangups onto you.

Not true, you can love someone and want nothing material from them.

they don't
Do they love you?

Why are they still together then?

Why did they get together in the first place?
