For school in general being able to type fast has been helpful. I type around 70wpm which is decent.
Is it necessary to go quicker?

Its fine, it’s a very valuable skill and you will be ahead of many people who are still working with 2 fingers

I find typeracer a good starting point to get a good typing speed. Only really useful when doing online work/essay typing.

I use to type at around 30wpm at the start of lockdown in 2020 but then I was using my computer alot more so I tried to get faster. Best website for learning the proper finger positions is keybr and there are 3 websites which are good for practicing.
1.tenfastfingers
2.monkeytype
3.typeracer
try them all out and see what you like.
