Haha went there again today, found the fire exit people are talking about. Creepy! That came out of the door I mentioned earlier. I don't know what possible purpose that lift has, although it could be a strange way of accessing whatever is the other side of it...basically as I mentioned earlier if you come out that door and go round the back you can look in and see a seperate passage going down.

The other lift was all sealed off though, it was basically a wooden door with no handles all sealed up. Opposite that is another door that was padlocked.

I think I finally managed to find the tunnel you were on about - I admit it did feel rather weird going down there with the smell of new paint and vinyl flooring yet it was so quiet with virtually nobody using it.I really fancy loaning an SLR from Photosoc and messing around it down there later but I've took a few shots on my K550i (hope it won't spoil it too much!)I didn't see the elevator that Alex managed to get stuck on C floor or any shafts by the way ,it was probably to the right of the heavy wooden doors at Portland but I didn't pay much attention.:

Portland entrance - go down a set of stairs just right of the Student Support Centre - you'll see a set of heavy wooden doors straight on when you're down there taking you through to the tunnel.

This is the main tunnel itself - much to my surprise it was quite well lit and quite recently done up with new paint.I imagined something dark and dilapidated really with minimal lighting to be honest.

Quite a long tunnel this - about 3/4 way along this is the fire exit onto the Trent car park.

Thought this led directly out to the car park but it led into a rather creepy passage as markdr mentioned.I admit I got quite nervous as I thought it led to some other series of tunnels but instead a set of stairs , with what appears to be a cargo elevator famous chair and the real exit.Quite like the flickering light

This is the entrance from the Trent end - the tunnel is really well signposted from the Trent building but rather well hidden in Portland.Sign on door says the tunnel closes at 5.30pm daily:
