So I just bought a new HP 13 inch Envy laptop for uni, I know it's not supposed to be for gaming but it says it can do "light gaming". I was wondering if I could run a game like Battlefield 4 on it since it was free with Amazon Prime? Obviously it would be in low settings but I'm wondering what other games this graphic card would be capable of? Thanks

If you can try a game for free or very cheap, just go ahead and try it.

And, as you say turn off the eye candy and see how it runs.

If it runs OK you can then turn up the game graphical settings one by one and see how your laptop gets on.

The game runs fine on Medium settings, I'm just worried about the heat. My laptop gets extremely hot and I'm worried if that could cause long-term damage. Do people game on non-gaming laptops at all?

Don't worry about the heat. Just carry on using and enjoying your laptop.

Plus, regardless of how hot or cool your computer is running, you should make sure you have all data that you'd want to keep backed up. As well as license keys for any software you've paid for, including windows.
All so that you are prepared in case your laptop suddenly packs-up. Which is unlikely. But you never know. All it takes is one coffee spill to wreck a laptop.

Feel free to sit in front of a room fan when playing on glorious summer days.
