Hey, so I have recently completed my grade 5 piano and music theory exam (ABRSM) and I want to proceed to higher grades. I am in year 11 and I would like to at least get to grade 7 or above by the time I finish Sixth Form. I was considering to skip to grade 7 but I'm not so sure yet. Any advice?

Hey , so i don't do piano but i know that if you probably want to pass your yr 11 exam its better to go through a lot of past papers and revision guides ,like seriously , eat sleep and drink past papers , im about to do that too because im in year 11 this year and i really need to pass so i thought i would just share my own plan

Ask your teacher what they think.

Hey! It's totally up to you! I've done my grade eight but I've only ever skipped one grade but personally, I don't think the jump from grade 5 to grade 7 is massive if you personally feel like you're quite musical!

My advice would be to take a look at some grade seven pieces and listen and then make a choice with your teacher (if you have one)!

think it depends i skipped grade 1 & 2 and went straight onto 3 in 7 months and now im working towards grade 5. You need to practice obviously but its definitely do able. Lots of people skip grade 5 to 7 as its cheaper and as long as you learn grade 6 scales and arpeggios all you need is practice

My daughter certainly skipped from grade 6 to grade 8 ok. She did learn some grade 7 pieces but the exam would have got in the way of GCSEs
