Hi! Im a placement student and I will be commuting 3 days a week to my placement, and I’ve been told a flexi ticket could save money. However, they all say 8 days of travel within a 28 day period. I’ll be needing 12 days within this period. How does the ticket work? Is it basically a discount on 8 days travel per month, and I basically pay full price for the other 4?

Not sure if I’m being stupid, but I’d appreciate someone explaining how this works for 3 day per week commuters.

It does not work for three day a week commuters. Can your placement start on a few days at off-peak times? Or on some Saturdays?

Surely you would just purchase another once you’d used up your 8 journeys…??

It can’t ;/

On all the articles it says 3 day a week commuters can save. Evidently they can’t

Is it then a saving if I’m purchasing 2 flexi tickets per month?

I don’t know-what’s the price difference.
It would be one and a half every 4 week. So is it cheaper to buy one and a half flexi compared to a months ticket or compared to 12 days travel?

To be honest, I was being stupid. I thought that you couldn’t buy another flexi ticket once you’d used your 8 days within a given month for some reason lmao. It does work out cheaper to buy them every 8 days worth of travel, still hella expensive though!

Have you looked at whether it's worth getting a railcard? A railcard will save you a third of the cost -- but note that this is subject to a minimum £12 fare if you travel before 10am. So if your return journey costs £11.50 (say) there's no benefit in getting a railcard.

Journalists in a rush presumably aren't good at maths. You've never had one as a Countdown contestant, and the person in dictionary corner seldom gets the numbers if the contestants don't.
