I'm curious about the security checks for overseas. Can you elaborate more on it. I also lived abroad

As far as I remember they usually require you to provide 5 years of employment history and in those 5 years if you have lived abroad you would need to apply for a police clearance certificate with the consulate of that country. The process on how you apply for this and timelines would depend on the country where you had been to.

Hi
What documents did they ask you to show during the interview. I wasn’t sure about the documents so I just showed my passport end of the interview.

The lady in fact said my verification interview cannot continue and has to be rescheduled if I have not uploaded two more documents one with a photo ID. I uploaded a driving license and a bank statement. I thought this was over the top. You lucky if you escaped with just a passport.

Did she say we had to upload this during the interview?

Hi Guys,

Congrats to everyone who received an offer and are on the reserve list (like me)

I scored 27 and I'm based in Belfast - is there anyone else from Northern Ireland who applied and got the job? I feel like the amount of jobs over here won't be as much as mainland UK, especially for this position

Does anyone know if they recruit off the reserve list for other jobs across the CS?

Sounds like a lot of people waiting for responses and no reply from the HO.

I have been doing this role for 8 months now and can without a doubt state that it is the worse job I have ever done. I never thought I would be working somewhere so stressful in which 95% of the workforce are seriously unhappy.

I always wondered why the adverts for this role had such high numbers for posts and now I realise. It’s because everybody soon does everything they can to leave…

Thank you very much for the detailed post. I am very grateful for the insight you gave us on the nitty gritty of the job. I was on a reserve list and on Wednesday they emailed me a provisional offer. I accepted but the pre-employment which should be pretty straightforward appears not to be so. I had an ID verification interview on Teams this morning but it was like ''you have not uploaded all the docs we wanted so we are calling the call off''. I said I will upload it rightaway ans she was kind enough to allow me to email her and the internet went off................................. That was the last I heard from them. I know its a weekend but is that it?

More importantly why do I think there is a huge turn over of staff for this post? Is is the work situation as in managers who stress or is it the nature of the job of interviewing asylum seekers and then when one makes an adverse decision and the fella is deported or detained the emotions gets to them? Why are there too many people leaving the job? Or are they?

I think it's luck of the draw depending on what team you get on whether you are supported or not.

Each team has a technical specialist (Tech Spec for short) who marks your work until you are signed off and they can each interpret the information differently so it can be hard to learn. However, the people talking so far have gone through this troubled method and not through the academy which is seeking to streamline the knowledge so that everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet which I think is a welcome change. For that reason, I think things will be a lot better for new people. I've heard that the academy has far better retention of new staff compared to the rest of the dept.
Another reason is the pay. It's less than other civil service depts and the work is harder. The role used to be an HEO level job but they cut about a third of the work requirement and dropped it down to EO pay. For me personally, having a role that makes it easier for me to get promoted is pretty good long term but I understand if people want an easier life.

The only thing I will say is if you do your research and weigh up the odds then take the job you will feel more ownership over the job. A lot of people I know just accepted the job without doing much research which makes no sense to me.

Also, if you have come from harder work in the public/ private sector, you will be ok I think. If you've had a fairly easy time so far you will struggle with this role.

Most people I know who have left the job have done so on promotion though. So stay for a couple of years then get promoted. That's my game plan anyway and is what I did at DWP.

What roles have you done before out of interest?

The uncertainty is soo cruel. So looking at the whole thread, here is the story so far - They have replied to candidates who had interviewed on 8th and 7th September with successful and unsuccessful outcomes and have not given any response to a few people who had interviewed on 6th September. There is no pattern here at all. My only guess would be that they are caught up with the right to work checks and reaching those people whose RTW docs are very straight forward first.

Not correct. I interviewed on the 7th and no response

So, no pattern at all. I guess we will be kept waiting until this Friday since they mostly seem to contact candidates during Fridays.

Thank you very much. I think as you said both the pay and the learning curve are factors for the turnover. I hope I will survive if I get the job. What do you think is the possibility of a decline barring a security clearance failure. Do you think the Student debt will be considered a barrier?

No loads of people have student debt lol. I have it and I wasn't declined. I think it's more if you or parents/immediate family have terrorism charges against you

Has anyone else on the thread applied for Newcastle?

Hey, I applied for Newcastle too.
I was put on the reserve list on the 10th September. But I guess you'll get an offer way before I do. My overall score was only 24. I think that's the minimum. Good Luck!

Anyone applied to London and had a response yet? Most comments seem to have been from people outside of london. Wondering if there were perhaps more applications for London based job..interview was on the 15th september still no response back yet..

I had applied to London, interviewed on 6th Sept, no response yet.

How do you calculate your overall interview score? Is it “overall score” under strengths plus the points you got on behaviours? Or is the “overall score” on the CS website for both strengths and behaviours?
