Hi,

I am looking to study a second undergraduate degree in a STEM subject. This will of course be part time. I am a disabled student (mental health) also. My degree which I received full funding for was in business.

The course I am looking at is Cyber Crime and Forensic investigation at the University of Winchester. I am hoping that I can study this as distance learning as my disability prevents me from being able to travel.

Also, and I could be being very think here, but please can you confirm what subjects are includes in the general and others science part of the part time exception list?

Hi there,

Part Time
If you already hold an Honours degree or a higher level (HE) qualification, you are able to apply for a Part Time Fee Loan for any one of the exception course below. For students who start a new course from 18/19 onwards, this will mean they can apply for the Part Time Maintenance Loan as well as tuition fees.
- Medicine and Dentistry
- Subjects to Allied Medicine
- Biological and Sport Science
- Psychology
- Veterinary Sciences
- Agriculture, Food and Related Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- General and Others in Sciences
- Mathematical Sciences
- Engineering and Technology
- Computing
- Geographical and Environmental Studies

If you provide the HECoS code for the course you are looking at then I can advise if it's an exception course. You can ask the university for this code.
Thanks, Isaac

Hi Isaac,

Thank you for your very prompt reply.
The course code on the website is I205.

Is the maintaince loan for all part time students or just those with a disability that cannot travel?

And sorry but you haven't confirmed my other question of what is meant by general and others science courses?

I require the hecos code not the course code.

Part time students can receive a maintenance loan as long as they are not distance learning - you can find out more information here https://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/...ntenance-loan/

And sorry but you haven't confirmed my other question of what is meant by general and others science courses?
Please clarify further?
Thanks, Isaac

OK I will ask the uni for that code and come back to you.

On the list of part time exception courses it lists general and others in science. Can that include social sciences such as behaviour analysis, criminology or is far more standard sciences such as biology, chemistry. Same with the mathematical sciences as listed, is it for more pure and applied maths degrees or does it include things such as financial maths?
