Hi,

It's amazing to hear about what you have done!

I was wondering what studying at the University of Southampton is like, is it diverse? What's the male to female ratio like?

Also, do most people who apply for a placement receive one?

Thank you!!

Thank you for your question!

The University of Southampton is very diverse and has people from a multitude of backgrounds studying there. The male to female ratio on the engineering course is very high, but this is expected in all universities for this course. Through the university, the ratio seems to be equal but will vary with the yearly intake.

Finding a placement is very hard so unfortunately not all the people who apply receive one. Nevertheless, Southampton does have good connections with a few placement providers who shorten the application process for Southampton students. As I mentioned in a post above, the careers service regularly informs us of opportunities, some of which give Southampton students priority. Your personal tutor can also put you in contact with older students who have been on placements, which could help you find a role if you are looking.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions
