I've been feeling the same a lot recently. I went looking around the colleges one day and Queen's was the best of the ones I saw but I chose a pretty stupid system (drew a circle around the Sidgewick site, on the prospectus, to see the closest colleges to it and only visited those inside the circle). I was looking longingly at Clare after I'd applied but I'm re-finding my original love for Queens', as, the interview process for law at Clare required a lot more work (prepatory work, essays etc) and I might have not even got a place.

Circle drawing would have been a very good idea for someone as indecisive as me! I found it really hard to pick a college. Eventually, I just got the right feel about Queen's and liked the fact that all the accommodation is on the same site - even Cripps.

Now I feel a real sense of loyalty to the college because I got on offer and might not have done from anywhere else!

I keep looking at the map and liking Queens' even more because of how close it is to the Sidgwick site! It'll be nice (as long as I get the grades of course) to walk and not have to cycle in for the 9am lectures!

Heh I know what you mean - that was a few moments of flirting with other colleges but now I've returned to my true love.
Not that Queens' needs it, but since my offer I have become a kind of walking advert for it. For people in yr12 just starting to think about the application process, albeit so early, I've dropped 'Queens'' loads in my Cambridge advice responses

I dunno, about about all of it. I stayed in the B block and my room seemed pretty dated but it was still pretty big and it did have a nice view onto the river cam and mathematical bridge however. It seemed strange that it didn't have a main light in the room, but just small lamps and spot lights round the edges kinda.

Apparently the new rooms built on top are very nice.

Heh - the ancient accomodation is never something you think about when you're caught up by the initial awe of the colleges.
Is Queens a relatively hard college to get into, does anyone know? It seems to be fairly competitive for MML looking at past statistics at least. I'm thinking of applying to Queens if I re-apply this year.

Its one of the larger colleges and one of the more famous ones so I'd assume so. I know for last year it was the 5th most competitive college to get into for Law, after Downing, Trinity, Johns and Kings.
You can look at stats all you like, but you're not going to be able to make a safe prediction. At the end of the day it's probably best to ignore the statistics and apply for the college you want to apply to.

And no, Cripps isn't that bad at all. Especially seeing as it's -full- of first years, so if you're there in your first year you get to know lots of people very easily.

Yes, I think that's the best thing. I read just earlier that Queens is apparently known for liking their students to take a gap year first, so if I do indeed re-apply to Cambridge and apply to Queens then that would give me a little more hope perhaps.

Please do apply city_chic! If its languages you want to do then a gap year could only be beneficial surely, cos you could go travelling?

Oh and yeah, apply to Queens' lol

Yeah, I could go to France and do something beneficial there etc.

Hm, so I just saw that last year Queens only took 5 MML applicants () whilst others took 15 or so. Hmm :\

So. Pooled to Queens' from John's and learning about apostrophes.

Queens' rang the day after I got the pooling letter from John's, last Friday. Offer coming with no interview required, but I've heard nothing since. Is it the practice to send out all the pooled offer letters together, after the interviews have happened? Waiting to see the offer in black and white is becoming a bit of a strain, and not just on the postman.

And yes, everyone who has been there, or knows anything about Oxbridge says it's an upgrade.

Got into Queens'!!! I did put in an Open Application as I did not think the colleges made a huge difference!

Wasn't overly impressed as it felt really cramped for the 2 hours I was in but oh well I may start liking it in time....

Any one else doing Maths here (at queens)?
I'm not sure what the practice is for offer letters for poolees, but if you've had the phone call then you just need to sit back and wait I'm afriad. Your hypothesis seems quite likely, but I'm not sure. Yes, absolutely an upgrade. Congratulations. :P

We don't have any current mathmos from Queens' on here, afaik, but I'll be able to answer questions on Queens' and some mathmo will be able to answer questions on maths, so ask away.
If you have anything particular about maths and Queens (though I can't imagine what that'd be) then I guess I could ask a friend once I get back to college.

Congrats to you guys who were lucky enough to be fished by Queens rarther than another worse college (all the rest)

speedy_s its cool your open application got to Queens (one of the more popular colleges) for one of the most popular courses. Hope I see you guys there in October!

Cheers Coldfish.

John's looked pretty enough and that sort of mediaeval Hogwarts feeling after the sun goes down is amazing, but both times I was there it seemed ecclesiastically quiet. Queen's looks stunning too.

I don't feel I belong here yet, though. 35%-40% of us mathmos fail to make the grades and I don't even want to look at the the stats for poolee's.
I think it's always healthy to try not to view yourself as "there" on the grounds of an offer. There is always that ~10% of offer-missers, after all.

Yep. Excuse me while I go quiet again. :frown:

Neg rep for this

Was it for momentary my deviation from loving Queens'?

Or,

Responding in a positive manner towards Queens' when asked where I had applied and why?

Ooo so scandalous!

theres a bit of a shortage on the TSR.

I know what you mean heh

Tudor style buildings OWN all that neo-classical/baroque stuff  Queens' is def the best looking!
Pfffltlhphgt. There's a shortage of Queens' loving on TSR? Do you KNOW how much I post here? I present my post count as exhibit A.
