Hi, im applying to Queens' for economics, and i was just wondering if any students already there could tell me anything about accomodation (what is it like, is it relatively cheap/expensive etc.) Also, what are the other general student facilities such as bar and canteen like in comparison to the other colleges?

On the Open Day I was shown a room, really nice actually, in Cripps. The person doing the tour said it's approximately ÂŁ600-900 a semester depending on how big your room is, what facilities etc.

Hi,
I've applied to Queens' for engineering and haven't received anything yet. Is that usual or should be concerned ? :P
Is here any engineering student who can tell anything about the interview  ? I hope that someone can give an example of task or question I can expect.
I'm an English app and haven't heard anything other than my SAQ acknowledgement. I wouldn't worry until after the 24th, their deadline for sending out interview times.

That's a lie. I have the cheapest room available (in Cripps') and that's ÂŁ762 per term, plus ÂŁ135 heating bill plus however much my electricity bill is going to be.

Sorry, that's just what I was told. It wasn't a lie, I was misinformed.

It wasn't a dig at you, what I meant was that you had been misinformed.

It's ok, no offence taken lol.

It might be a couple of years ago there was a separate KFC charge which has now been merged with the room rents that was about ÂŁ120. So maybe when the person showing the room actually rented in Cripps, their room rent _was_ about ÂŁ600. I'm sure they didn't mean to misinform, I'd have given the ÂŁ600-900 range too if put on the spot and asked how much college rooms are.
For those already at Queens'. Did you get asked questions about all of the 3 topics you wrote down for interview or did a couple of the topics not come up?

what subject have you applied for?

thinking about mine, i don't think they asked me about any of them.
Maths, I've spent quite a lot of time studying the areas I named so if none come up it'll be a bit annoying but oh well

What three topics is this? *Is scared now*
In the interview details email they send you there's a slip that you have to send back to them that you put 3 topics that you would like to discuss in interview, well for maths you do anyway. Just back from my interview and thought it went pretty badly, looking back at the questions I think I could do them without a problem now but at the time I was a nervous wreck! They say we'll hear on the 3rd of January but i'm certainly not optimistic.

Oh...I wasn't asked for that. Maybe it's different for some subjects?

I don't think it's just for maths, I remember at the top it said something about what science applicants might want to put down.

Hmm... I completely screwed up on very basic stuff in one of the questions, but after that I actually found the questions were worryingly easy and weren't developed at all; I was expecting more, and I got the impression that maybe they thought I was a bit rubbish. Did you get the same feeling..?

Remember though that the interview's just one aspect of your application.

That's the exact feeling i got, no development at all and a couple of worryingly easy questions. The first interview felt really rushed like they were just waiting to like get me out of the way. I didn't really understand what they wanted me to do in one instance so I sat in silence for like a minute and as soon as they put the question to me differently i understood straight away. Good luck with your application!

Hi, I have my interview on Monday. I am really scared about it cause I am applying for engineering and have no time to review physics :/ Has anybody here had already interview for engineering?

Should I expect more physics or mathematics?

Yeah, hope to see you there! :P

But hmmm... I was very surprised at a couple which were probably slightly easier than AS level questions!

Ahrghh I'm gonna stop thinking about it now.

Had one last year. My questions were all mathsy, with a focus on mechanics. I also had some simpleish (tho I sucked at them) resistor network questions.
It was only one half an hour interview and a lot nicer than I'd thought really.
Tips, just (try to) enjoy it and explain your thought process out loud.

This thread needs needs the apostrophe to be repositioned to queens' :-o
