Hey everybody! :smile: After my rather dismal previous post about how AWFUL my interviews went in December, last weekend I got a letter from Queens' to say that they are offering me a deferred place to study ChemEng with them as of October 2011!

I AM SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S BRILLIANT AND SHOCKING AND RELIEVING AND JUST FAB FAB FAB FAB FAB!!!!!!!!!! QUEENS' IS THE BEST COLLEGE EVER AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY WANT ME AND I AM GOING THERE (grade permitting!)!!!!!!! BEST FEELING IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD. EVER!!!!!!! :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

Anyone with an offer for 2010 heard about accomodation yet? They said they'd write to us about this in March. I ask because a few pieces of post to my house have recently "disappeared" somehow and not arrived :rolleyes:

Hello! Im going to be a Queens' fresher this October, and I just have a couple things to find out before I go off traveling.

Is it true that the 'kitchen fixed charge' no longer exists - it is incorporated in to accommodation costs? What other termly charges do I need to budget for? (I know internet is 25 per term).

When do Freshers sort out their accommodation?

What is the gym like? (Crowded? Well equipped?)

Kitchen fixed charge doesn't exist. Its just internet which is normally £25 unless you go over 5gb a month, in which case it is 10p a gb. Bill normally comes to around £1050 for an ensuite room in cripps which is probably the most expensive you'll get in first year.

Make sure you apply for Cripps accomodation as soon as you get the letter, as otherwise its a gamble between fisher and docket and you really dont want docket.

Gym is empty but awful, the friction on all the machines make it completely irrelevent which weights you put on...

hi does anyone know what internet facilities there are in the accomodation at queens? im looking at gettting my laptop soon but need to be sure its got eerything i need :smile: also how much first year is accomodation is ensuite? is there a good chance of getting ensuite? whats the accomodation actually like in general? haent seen the college at all yet :s-smilie:

Every room has an internet port which is used. You can use computer rooms if you don't have a laptop but its pretty much assumed you that you do, and would be quite a drain on your time if you didnt as you are expected to check emails every couple of hours.

The ensuite rooms are all in Cripps (accomodation block), where most of the first years are anyway. This is only staircases EE DD and some of CD, so not everybody gets it. If you give your form in promoptly you should have a fairly good chance though.

Cripps is horrible to look at from the outside but really good to live in as its pretty modern and where most of the frehsers live.

Nice, yeah it will be a fair trip which is part of my concern for not firming yet.

Leicester, so far less exotic. It's a dump, tbh. I have visited Cambridge a few times and they are worlds apart!

I've never been to Leicester but Edinburgh and Cambs have some good similarities, I wouldn't mind living in either place actually.

What date was your interview? Did you get a chance to look much around college? It feels like quite a tiny college; Old Court is gorgeous! I didn't get a chance to look at the dining area, though. Did you?

Sorry to interrupt but I don't know what most of the college even looks like XD. I went straight to the interview.

It was in Queens but right at the entrance. So i saw the front of the new part but none of the old part.
