Anyway, I have a question for people already at Queens', if that's OK: assuming I get a room in Cripps' Court, what facilities are already available in rooms? For example, will I need to bring my own kettle (I'm a tea addict, so will need ready access to a kettle  )? I know that there are irons available from the porter's lodge, but would people recommend I bring my own? (I think I will anyway). Going back to the tea thing - is there a suitable place to store milk without fear of it being stolen (or spiked :eek3: )? Is it quite common for students to get their own mini-fridges for their rooms, and is this worth it?

You won't need your own kettle, there's one in your room. There's an iron and ironing board in the laundry room, but I found it worthwhile to have my own and save me the walk and possible wait for someone to finish. You might also want to look at taking a drying rack too, as the dryers aren't too cheap.

I didn't have a problem with anyone taking any of my stuff from the fridge at any point, although I did seem to be the only one who drank skimmed milk so maybe that helped! :p: It does happen, but it's going to depend on your luck, really. I don't know if I would say it's common to have one in your room, but certainly people do. I think it'd be nice to have, if only because the fridges in the gyp rooms can get fairly cramped (shared between ~6 people and not unusually large), but a long way from a necessity.

Thank you very much - that's all really useful to know. I hadn't thought about a drying rack. And I didn't realise that the gyp rooms were only shared by about 6 people. If that's the case, then it shouldn't be too difficult to suss out who I'm sharing with, and whether I'll need to make alternative arrangements for milk storage :p: .

Incidentally, if you haven't already found it, there's the freshers section of the JCR website. You'll get a little welcome pack and letters from college parents sometime in the next two or three weeks, too.

Oh, cool, thanks!
Hello  it seems I am starting history at Queens' in October (I am still completely bemused by this prospect).

Just about to post off my Financial Notification whatsit (which I have only just received). The thing is, they haven't processed my evidence in time so have initially assessed me without taking household income into account to make sure I'll have moneys for start of term. So although I will hopefully be getting something by way of a grant, only the loan is shown on my notification. Do Cambridge need to know this -- if I get another notification thing when they've processed my evidence, with the grant on it, will I need to send that too? I'm guessing probably not, if the purpose of sending the financial notification is just to prove that I'll have financial support & be able to pay my fees etc., but thought I'd check.

Also... is anyone else a little bit terrified? :o:

Ah, what do we need to send in now that we have our results?

The only thing I can think of is the caution money. Do we need to send copies of our UMS scores? Or is this only for those who slightly missed their offers?

Also, what's with all this confirmation by post business! First, we had to confirm we accepted the offer and now I have to confirm by post that I'm coming to Queens'?! LONGGGG!

XD I was tempted to just send 'Yes, yes I am.' . I've sent the caution money and the confirmation, but I haven't been asked for anything else. Now we play the waiting game...

'Grats all on getting your results and confirming Queens'! I'm really excited now, looking forward to seeing you guys come October when it all becomes real.

I really hope I get accommodated in Cripps and not shoved in Docket or Fisher...

Have any of you guys heard anything after results apart from the welcoming/"give us the caution money letter"? i.e. freshers, moving in dates, accommodation?

Some of this is addressed here, and specifically in this letter. A paper copy of this will eventually make its way to you.

I don't know when you'll hear about accommodation, I came through the summer pool so had a different line for that.

Oh dear yes me too... I don't want to seem ungrateful but things like that make me want to go and curl up in a dark cave and avoid all human contact, plus I don't have anything respectable to wear; do we absolutely have to attend? I suppose so judging by "You are expected to attend these events unless you have a commitment at University Department which prevents your attendance" but am still vaguely hoping that somehow doesn't apply to the dinner... Don't want to look rude but am seriously considering just not replying to it before the deadline and pretending I was on holiday or something :frown:

Just checked your posts to see when you're interview was, and it was on the 9th December wasn't it? Mine was then, as well, so we were likely sat in that common room/bar area listening to the speech and collecting our interview information at the same time. Were you alone?

Whilst they don't seem to say it's mandatory, it'd be a great opportunity to meet new people. Up to you, no point doing something if you're going to be so uncomfortable that you'll gain nothing from it anyway, I suppose. Just don't regret passing up any opportunities is all I'd recommend...
