Queens' College (Cambridge) Students and Applicants

I got an interview on 13th of December (Friday the 13th...) for Land Economy. Anyone else got an interview on that day?

I don't do A levels and I don't know how specific I should be in listing the topics. Moreover, do you think we should include a topic for different subjects (one for physics, one for chemistry, etc.) or can we choose all the topics from one subject? They wrote they'll probably pick just one of the three, so I think it's up to us?

I'm thinking of putting down one for each subject, though not really sure how specific. Do you think something like 'organic chemistry' is a little too vague? :P Have you sent yours off yet?

It should be ok, I don't think we have to be very specific. I haven't sent mine off yet either because I'm undecided about the third topic. I think I'll put mechanics for physics and the atomic model for chemistry, but I don't know about the third, because I want to do Computer Science as my third subject at Cam, but I don't study it at school.

I'm in a similar position as I've applied to Chem Eng, I'm thinking that I'll put something for it in the third option.

Have you said in your PS that you want to do Comp Sci? The main purpose of the form to generate interview topics, so if you're having only physics and chemistry interviews then I guess you are not obliged to put down anything for Comp Sci, unless of course you feel confident talking about it at the interview

How are you thinking of preparing for the interviews?

I think I'll put anothet physics topic, I just have to sort it out

To prepare I'm revising every single topic I've studied in the last three years of physics, chemistry and maths, doing some physics olympiads and pat past papers and look for questions all over the internet to see if I can answer them. I also try to question myself about how to demostrate some physics laws or maths theorems and I write them down.

How are you preparing? Have you got other interviews? I've got one at Imperial in two weeks

No I don't think so, though I'll probably return it in the same email as the fee status form which does have a deadline.

Yeah I'm doing the same, just working through Olympiad questions, though it's slightly frustrating that there aren't any mark schemes for the PAT :/ There are also mock interviews arranged by our sixth form in the next few weeks.

I've got an interview at Birmingham in three weeks, but still haven't heard back from Imperial :/ Did you apply for CompSci at Imperial?

Has anyone received confirmation that the college have received the forms? I sent mine by post (1st class) and I haven't heard since - it's been a week. I ticked the box saying I wanted my accommodation confirmed too so it's slightly worrying

Has anyone else been invited to a quiz night at Queens' bar while they're staying at the college for the interview? Are you going?

I'll probably not go in case I end up drinking out of anxiety

Does anyone know what accommodation we're in?

I think I probably won't go either, because I'll be so nervous that I'll just want to stay on my own and revise (I know last-minute prep isn't useful, but it helps me feel more relaxed).

Anyway, I have no idea about accommodation, they just wrote me where to pick my room key when I arrive.

Is anyone staying in the college on the 12th?

Similar position here! Although socialising will probably help me feel comfortable too so I'll see if anything is on when I'm staying.
