Look at ranking, student satisfaction, online open day events, student support, extra curricular activities...loads of things to consider

MMU is considerably bigger and more oversubscribed from what I gather but at the end of the day it's where you feel like you would flourish the most

Hi ncensinc

Wow! Congratulations on receiving an offer from us and Salford! I thought it might help if I tell you a bit more about our Computer Science course and facilities to help with your decision.

Computer Science is a part of the Department of Computing and Mathematics, which is a vibrant community of staff and students, which prides itself on internal and external collaboration. Industry links are important to us. We work in partnership with companies large and small, local and global on technology transfer projects and initiatives to develop better employment skills for our students.

Our excellent facilities include teaching laboratories equipped with high-specification PCs with specialist, industry-standard software running on either Windows or Linux. We have a games lab equipped with gaming chairs, keyboards and mice used for our eSports events, an animation lab with a green-screen area and a user experience lab with an eye-tracking system.
Our dedicated drop-in lab provides an informal social working space with regular support sessions from our programme support tutors. We have a rolling plan of replacement for both hardware and software to ensure the department keeps up with developments in the world of computing and technology.

We provide teaching in specialist laboratories with high-performance computers and the latest industry-standard software. We also have strong industry links in a city with one of the biggest creative and digital sectors in the UK. Our courses are developed with industry in mind, giving you the skills and knowledge you’ll need in the workplace. This ensures that by the time you leave us, you’ll be well placed to pursue a range of careers across a variety of sectors.

You may wish to explore our On-Demand Open Days, where you can view subject presentations, subject areas, virtual campus tours, FAQs from our teaching staff and our Student Life Fair. If you are interested you can access the On-Demand Open Day here: https://www.mmu.ac.uk/study/open-days/undergraduate/demand-open-days

You may find it useful to chat with one of our current Students on our Access Platform. Students can chat with you about student life and what it is like studying courses at Manchester Met https://www.mmu.ac.uk/chatwithus/

Hopefully, some of this helps! Good luck, hopefully, we will see you in September!

Hello ncensinc ,

Congratulations on getting an offer from MMU and Uni of Salford. That's really awesome!!

The school of Science, Engineering and Environment at Salford Uni encompasses computer science courses. The SEE school is going to move to the newly built, 100% electrically powered building soon in the main campus and we can't wait to have you there, given the COVID restrictions are lifted for this year! Salford Uni computer science courses are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) and The Chartered institute of IT, so you will get the chance to be educated at the highest standards! In addition, the University of Salford is a leading regional study centre for computer science - and a great place for you to further your computer science journey. We are excited to be part of the GM Cyber Foundry, the Greater Manchester city region's blueprint to be a global leader in cyber and digital research and intelligence. Here at Salford Uni, you can also get the chance to combine between computer science and cyber security too. In terms of employability, our computer science alumni have found employment with leading national companies across a range of industries, such as Sainsburys, Cisco, Microsoft, SIS, Autotrader, HMRC, Ferranti and Civica, plus local firms emerging in the fast-growing North West tech community.

Being a student at Salford gives you the chance to be in the middle of a very interactive and vibrant community of staff and students. You will also have the chance to create your own society where you can do things that you enjoy with like-minded people from the student community. As a student at Salford, I can confidently say that going to Salford was my best decision!

I wish you all the best and I hope we can see you soon in our campus!

Thank you
