Visit day = offer? (uni of southampton)

I'm a bit confused... on my letter it said 'we are very impressed with your application and we would like to invite you for interview' and it went on saying stuff about me being able to find out what they could offer me...

BUT they haven't made me an offer..

so does an interview mean it is likely you will get an offer when you visit them?

I've got this visit day invite too, and I'm hoping it basically means an offer, but I don't think it is quite. Is yours for the 12th Nov?
I ask as I can't make mine (12 Nov) and I'm kind of hoping they are doing it on more than one day.

I applied last year, and basically the day after I went I got an offer. Now I don't want to say for definite, but I'd be very surprised if you didn't both get offers. Even if you didn't go.

I got given my offer for going to my visit day, regardless of performance in interview. This may not be the case for you, but that's what happened to me. We were told in the first 5 minutes of the first presentation that we'd all get offers given to us.

yes mine is 12th November and i can't make mine either.

so was the visit day quite laid back? apaprently they ask really hard questions from what i've heard for electronic engineering but maybe it's different for civil engineering

i have just received an invitation to a visit day and an individual interview... am i likely to get an offer now? or have i been asked to interview because they're not sure about me from my application? i'm very nervous about the interview too!

I've just got an invitation to a visit day on the 27th for software engineering, and it says I have a 1to1 talk with someone from the department.

I was wondering what kind of questions do they ask you? and by "hardly an interview" do you mean it's more them telling you about the university than you telling them about yourself? also how long did your 1to1 last :smile:

I got one today for computer science either on the 2nd or 4th Dec.
It says something about a one-to-one discussion with a member of the academic staff and will be 20 minutes. So this is not an interview is it?

I had one for Computer Science on Thursday. It was completely informal; the interviewer said before anything else, "Just to clarify, this isn't really an interview. It's just a chance to get to know us and us to get to know you."

By informal, I'm sure it means informal too. Most of the people on the day I attended wore suits, blazers or something of the sort. I went in some new-ish jeans, a tee, a hoody and some clean-looking skate shoes, and they still offered me a place.

I'd be surprised if you didn't get an offer of a place after the Visit Day :smile:

Yeah, it definitely is just a chat. I'm currently in a gap year, already had the grades, but was still not given an offer before the "interview". Got my offer sent the day after the chat.

They just ask you to talk about what you specifically like about the subject, why you like southampton and if you have any questions for them.

Southampton was my last choice before I came to visit :colondollar:

Although, I do hope it's nice weather on Wednesday - the campus can look either gorgeous or gruesome, depending on whether the sun is shining or not :erm:

I got the visit letter but i couldn't go but they sent me an offer two days after i declined the visit. so it probbaly means you've got an offer.

Im guessing the visit day is just to seperate those who would consider taking the offer if they where given one, from those who put it as a fifth choice and have no interest in going?
