Visit day = offer? (uni of southampton)

Im guessing the visit day is just to seperate those who would consider taking the offer if they where given one, from those who put it as a fifth choice and have no interest in going?

i'm sure it's pretty hard for them to tell though

Yes I guess so, but if you dont go (unless you ring up with a valid reason) then I dont know if you would get an offer, however I stand to be corrected.

The letter I said stated something like "failure to attend a visit day will mean that we would be unable to give you an offer"

I'm sure if you have a valid reason for not being able to attend, and you email the department, they shouldn't have much of a problem with it. The Visit Day did seem more to be just to make sure you're not a psycho and the 1on1 chat to make sure you haven't lied in your Personal Statement.

Nothing like that at all. My interview was nothing like an interview; it was an informal chat about things on my Personal Statement, A-Level choices and a couple of minutes on career aspirations. They're not there to grill you on your knowledge or application of mathematics.

No. CompSci interviews aren't interviews, it's just a chat. No work, no grilling, nothing to worry about =)

hmmmm i hate to kill this thread but!!!.....

I sent my application off on the 12th dec...had a letter about a visit day which was to include an 'informal chat' sent to me on the 19th....

My visit day was on the 7th of jan....it was terrible!!!!!! im not being nasty but i felt like the tutor who "interviewed me" judged me before i even spoke and didnt want to give me an offer......because of this vibe i completely freaked out!! i couldn’t get my words out i couldn’t tell her the simplistic of answers.....i just literally froze.....im sorry to say that my interview was awful and resulted with me in tears......sad i know....

but when we went back to the room where the other applicants where, they had all been asked questions about why they want to choose there course, why Southampton etc.....and they all thought it went really well....

needless to say im counting down the days until my unsuccessful comes through....gutted as it was my first choice!!!

but this is me and i do get into a bit of a tiz sometimes sooooo don’t worry but then again dont think its going to be perfect.....just expect the unexpected which is something i failed to do.

It's Southampton, they don't take the interview that seriously, besides if they invited you to interview that means they want to give you an offer, let your UCAS speak for itself.

Some woman, another environmental scientist. Thats too Civil Engineering interviews I've had where the interviewer was a female Environmental Scientist!!! My PS puts me out as much more of a structures/architecture person! (conspiracy :ninja:

Oh i just got interviewed by the one professor. He specialised in soil mechanics i think. It was pretty laid back which was surprising. no academic content at all

For computer science, they said they gave out 80 offers and picked like 200 for the interview/offer, and I'm not sure but I think they give offers to everyone. They just check that you really do want to do that subject and at southampton. Even on the letter they said "If you cannot make the interview for whatever reason, we will make you a blind offer."

Visit day = offer? (uni of southampton)
