Are you Straight, Gay, Lesbian or bisexual?

Poll

Are you Gay, Lesbian or bisexual?

One thing i've noticed steadily over the years on TSR is that more and more users seem to be Gay, Lesbian or bisexual

Statistically around 2.2% of the population are LGB in 2020

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/mar/06/number-people-identify-lesbian-gay-bisexual-uk-high

up from 2% in 2017

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/culturalidentity/sexuality/bulletins/sexualidentityuk/2017

feels like a lot more than 2.2% LGB on TSR..

please answer the poll so we can see statistically how many LGB are on TSR

As straight as a feather flattened by a 30cm ruler.
The omission of trans people seems...conspicuous. Since traditionally the term is LGBT (or more generally LGBT*) since trans people have been an integral part of the LGBT* community from the beginning...

In any case those are self reported statistics, and many LGBT* people may not feel comfortable identifying themselves like that on official documentation, especially if they live with family or others who would make their situation unsafe if they found that out. Also sometimes the census may be filled out by others on their behalf and their straightness assumed, since typically straight is seen as the "default".

Also comparing that data to TSR is meaningless because TSR is by no means a representative sample of the total UK population. The population on TSR will be heavily skewed in demographic towards younger people, as it primarily caters to those in education (either in school or uni), and while that may include those working in the sector or who are mature students, statistically most are younger. So it's a fairly pointless comparison.

How pitiful. I'm as straight as a sheet of graphene

What if you don’t fit into either of the two poll options? :emo:

poll has changed now... although still a fair amount of LGB

Original post by 64Lightbulbs
in younger generations its supposed to be as high as 20% of people.

I just looked in my link and it said in 16 to 24 it was 4.2%

You need an antivirus CD to keep your sheet secure, and very flat.

The proportion does tend to be higher among young people, and (anecdotally) I've found it to be higher still among students specifically, so I'm not that surprised that there's a decent portion of us on here.

Also, it's easier to be out on an anonymous online platform, since many people wouldn't be safe coming out in their real life. Even for people like me who have the privilege of not needing to worry about that, I'm not out to most people who know me simply because it hasn't come up in conversation, but I'm more likely to click on a thread on here where someone is discussing LGBT+ things and share my personal experience.

don't vote then.
anyways practically everyone here will fall into one of the 4 poll options.

wow...

it's 50/50 atm after 18 people have voted.

are straight people gonna be a minority here ....?

Seems like confirmation bias to me. People who aren't straight are more likely to stand out as such as well as answer polls like these. The vast majority of threads on TSR about relationships seem to be made by straight people and many assume that others answering are straight.

i've edited the title to attract more straight people

It's because the poll is biased. The thread title reads "are you gay, lesbian or bisexual?" Meaning those people are more likely to click on this thread. The title "what is your sexuality?" would probably yield more accurate results.
Trust me, ik my stuff. I do a level stats in maths

Even if it's specified in the title straight people are far less likely to bother answering.

I disagree.

It just seems like some of you are determined to try and invalid the poll
