Blue sclera generally mean brittle bone disease, but as far as I know you're born with that (my mother has it). Might be worth going to the doctor though.

Doctor, tomorrow.

Too much spicy food.

See a doctor, fairly sharpish i'd say. Especially if it's a really noticeable unnatural blue, would suggest something major.

Hi everyone
Basically, my sclera have turned blue :frown:
I'm fairly sure its nothing serious as I feel fine, but is it worth bothering a doctor about? I've had a bad throat for a few days so I might go anyway?
Thanks to anyone who replies!

Yes see a doctor. I was going to make a joke about the sci-fi books Dune, but seriously like the other posters have said see a doctor as soon as you can to find out whether this is a symptom of any illness.

they're not that blue! its more like a tint, and i didn't notice it until a friend pointed it out to me a few days ago so i don't know how long its been there. not the whole sclera is blue as well, there's a large ring around my irises and it suddenly turns back to white towards the corner of my eye. thanks for your replies everyone  xxx

blue sclera

A number of medical conditions can cause the aforementioned symptoms, your best option would be to visit your GP as soon as possible.

its almost invisible on camera and i don't have one anyway i'm afraid. also i'm fairly sure i'm not a daemon (although it is a possibility) and i'm not pregnant. :p: i've done a bit more research (medical student), its possibly an iron deficiency? xxx

i think that website is great if you really want to scare yourself :s-smilie: plus all the diseases on there seem to be genetic and I don't have any history of genetic diseases.

Hey, at least it wasn't a haemorrage.

mine have that and i don't think it's anything serious as my doctor's never said anything about it when he's seen me.
probably worth a trip if it's suddenly appeared but i wouldn't worry too much tbh.

I get that from time to time, like a light blue/greyish tinge in patches?
i go to the opticians every 6 months (maybe more, for contact lenses) and no one has ever said anything to me about it so i assumed it was nothing to loose sleep over

Reply 18

sort of like patches, but its literally a ring of blue around both my irises. cool that other people get it as well...think i might wait til i'm really ill with something else and then maybe mention it when i go to the doctor. thanks everyone xxxxx

Why wouldn't you go to the doctor?
